i saw a car with it on, from right behind, you couldn't see the plate (headlights lighting it up) but at any angle, no problem.

yea if like a light is shone on it, it looks all blury, so if a cop happens to be somewhere behind you at night he'll know and youll get in trouble im pretty sure...
knoxbw32
impretty sure its not against the law
they have no right 2 take a photo of ur numbr plate its urs
i was only gonna put it on my front plate ne way
only prob is my front number plate is hacked like u wouldnt beilive (vk with the pointy front) has bent it and cos its bent the paint has cracked off he corners and yer i dunno if itd work on my plates cos a lot of the reflective **** is gone
still eneough 2 easily light up thhe nimbers at night when light is shon on it
DrEvil
I am 99.99% sure it's illegal.

If it wasn't illegal to block the view of your numberplate in some way, then everybody would just cover them all the time.

Yeah, it's not allowed to me modified or obscured using any method. Even those clear plastic holders / protectors are illegal. A guy up here who has a hinged number plate was advised to fix it. While stationary it's visible but when moving over 60ish it becomes obscured as it swings up.

Rather get a fine for obscured plates than points off your license from a fixed camera!

I think there was a thing like this in Tassie a couple of years back - which ever political party that was in opposition said that if you didn't have plates on your car you only got a fine, no points so you might as well take your plates off and run the risk of getting caught for that cause you couldn't get done on a speed camera... Don't know if many people did it though...

Before slimline plates were around, my brother decided to make his own by chopping the top and bottom off the plates. He went through a booze bus, and one of the TOG's that were in there made him pull to the side, and told him modifying your numberplate is damaging government property. He gave my brother 2 weeks to get new plates, or he would have gotten a fine.
So I guess they don't really belong to you.

a dude i know just has a bit of blue electrical tape changing the I to a T, it looks 100% original and very very hard to spot the diff.

he figures hed rather be safe from speed camera's and risk the $120 fine(or whatever it is) for obscuring ur plates..

how many cars do u see that have just come back from the counrty etc with mud a dust so thick u cant see the plates at all..

And what happens when he gets pulled over for speeding? He then gets nailed for both.

Double or nothing. He's got nuts.

Incidently, I saw two uniformed cops the other day driving around in an Astra. So much for the family sized cars being what they use as unmarked cars.
Mr_Bob
the cops match the plates to a vehicle description.
if the plate doesn't match the vehicle they will try turning the T into an I, and find your mate by his vehicle description.
Dave
mr bob is right. this happened to my step dad. someone in a old commie taped his number plate up and happened to come up with the same numbers as my step dads car. he got a ticket but was away that weekend so went to veiw the photo. needless to say will a little zooming in and enhancement on the image it became plain as day that the plate had been changed. the guy copped the fine and another fine for doing it
Beany
one of my mates is a car patrol dude.

They have every car u can think of - dont think its not them when u look at that nice hotted up commy or even Rex at the lights. trust me i when for a burn in a tricked out WRX and damn the boys in blue mean bussines!

Its not worth it - i have talked my way outta few coz i'm form up the country and i know the guys around that area. but is it worth thinking ur good and wrapping around a tree???
Lost good mates that way a few times now

I have done a few advanced driving adn CAMS licences but doesnt mean i'm not gonna die!

i dont wanna speed just dont wanna get a fine if i am going 5km over the speed limit overtaking some granny $50 fine is a lot when u only get 9.16 an hr and petrol costs 50 a week
Beany
ok i was in a bad modd for my last post but yeah your right.
I have been done for what is it called 10km or less? so it was prolly more like 4km over!
at $135 i hit now they can shove it and on top of that its at least 1 demermit point.

Dont get caught alseep (drunk)'in the back' of your car with the keys in the ignition either guys. I had the most arseholeish cop do me for that too.

Do we know why the police use the police speed cameras??? So we don't decide to put our foot down if the light is still yellow, and it changes to red, and we still go through. Then we hit someone coming through the intersection.

I reckon its for our own good. Ok lets think about this, if everyone was to install these plates, everyone would just go at whatever speed, many people would happily run a red light, its not only the good drivers that would be going slightly over the speed, but the idiots on the road. They speed cameras are protecting us from the real phycos on the road!

My 2 cents!
knoxbw32
as i sed b4 i only want it for the front number plate cos multinovas are absolute bullcrap
thay put police olutta jobs and the death toll has gone up they dont work
canada admitted they were a waste of time but the government being the stingy pig it is wont let go of all the free money

ive never got a speeding fine in the 2 yrs ive had my licence never even been pulled over but just wanna know im safe if my speedo is off or something similar i wouldnt even bother if it was the old system where they had a 5-10 km buffer but yer i cant afford 2 risk driving at 60
1 speeding fine and it takes me 4 weeks 2 start saving again
