my amp is playing up its been getting progressivly worse 2 the point where i spend more time tying to stop it cracling or dropping 1 speaker out than listening 2 music...

i wanna rip the thing out and just bypass it how can i do this? there are 3 poles on each end ive tried 2 take clear pics(sorry they are a bit grainy)

can any body tell me how i can bridge the gap? ill just desolder the slider and put in wires 2 replace it...

never in my life has i used the left/right balance switch on a home stereo.

any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers Jono

not two wires. if its a slider I would work out the resistance of it and pop two resistors (per ch) of half value in place of it. that should give full signal to each channel

ill try measure it up with a multi meter and see what kind of values i come up with. does any one kno where each of these wires or resistors should go?

i guess ill do some measureing with the DMM and see how i go.

EDIT: update.......

well i got the multimeter on it after desoldering it off the board. i was getting soem pretty inconsistant results(i guess thats why its not workin) between 14-26k ohm... i think the little tracks it runs along must be a bit worn and also the feelers the metal bits that run along the tracks) must be worn or loose 2.

here is a pic of the slider. anyone dealt with this b4? kno how its hooked up? if its difficult i wotn bother and ill go out and buy that D1ick smith amp thats 200 with a free set of book shelves.

anyone?

oh yer here is more pics:Click to view attachmentClick to view attachment

thats a dual 250Kohm slider. so it you can find 125Kohm or make 125Kohm resistors then you are set.

the slider knob is the resistance take off piont and the other two are teh resistor itself.

should give you enough info to fix it.

ok well i work at jaycar so ill see what i can dig up at work. Cheers chris

IF you don't get the value spot on, it won't matter a great deal. Just make sure both resistors are the same.
Either go for a pair of 120k or 130k

ok i kno its rough but here goes. the top pic shows the arrows which are the pick ups for the slider 2 2 long tracks are 2(1 for left and 1 for right) the 250k resistors(measure 225k ohm on dmm)

the bottom pic is what i plan 2 do i think this is basically what phil was leading too. im gonig 2 work 2 nite and ill tlak it over with others at work as see if its right.

any comments will be appreciated.

oh should i use liek 1watt resistors? if i can get em the rest of the resistros look liek 1/4 or 1/2 jobbies and its all digital(rather than actually being fed the amlifiers power) so i dont think ill need 2 big of a resistor.

any thoughts?Click to view attachment

its fixed!!!!! YAY!!!

i used 0.5 watt 1% tolerance 120k ohm resistors measuring them they came up as 120.4k on my DMM the original slider measure 244kohm so this is about as close i could get. it works well and sounds better than it ever has! thanks to all those who helped!!!Click to view attachment

I need to fix my amp, just a cheapie (Well, no idea on price i 'borowed' it from the parents). I turn it down and it goes up and I turn it up and it goes up. Really annoying.

No idea how to fix it. Doubt anyone else has ideas so I am just venting at Yamaha.

pop the top and disconnect the volume motor.

Now you just had to prove me wrong that no one would have an idea tongue.gif

Thanks, will try it tomorrow. Need beauty sleep now.

i'll give it a go. whats wrong with it?

also midol? uve put me off now i was about 2 go out n buy a yamaha 5.1... unless you wanna sell yours?
Midol
Mines broken pretty good.

It is actually kinda good, till that fateful saturday night...

Nah, I took my system to a unit for a pissup and got kicked out and since I was mega smashed I accidently dropped it. Worked fine up until then, lol.

Few other things are wrong with it like missin knobs and stuff, without it I can't watch DVD's, use the record player, watch TV or listen to decent music through the laptop so I think I'll keep it tongue.gif

You got kicked out of a party - That my freind is the sign of a mess
Midol
Haha, I was the one who booked the unit tongue.gif So everyone got kicked out not just me.

Then I tripped over and fell through a glass door, just as my friend negotiated that everyone leaves except 4 of us... That blew his negotiations and landed me a $200 bill.
