lucky for me, my house is situated between a raaf base and an army base, more towards the army end,so i regularly have the pleasure of hearing F/A 18 Hornets on there way to bomb the crap outta some innocent kangaroos. heres a quickie i took on my phone, for those of you who have never experienced one of these flying over at a minimal altitude

i was driving north of Hay in NSW and one of those suckers flew past. there was so much noise i thought the wheels had fallen off the car.
i even got out of the car to have a look when i realised what it was when a second one went past. hauling ass, i swear they couldnt have been much higher than 200-300 ft.

they dont do it everyday..maybe once every 1-2 months, for a week or so....they start at about 9 in the morn, sometimes dont finish till 9 at night, and go over every 20-30 mins.yup they go so low that it is actually possible to see the raaf emblem onm the side..its only rarly they go this slow though lol. it is the freakiest thing to hear one go over.

You should try working on a RAAF Base it is annoying noisy bastard things I'm at Amberley work for Boeing doing maintenance on F-111's some days its cool all the noise, other days its just plain frustrating especially since they have a habit of going flying during lunch break.

yeah i think they do that in aussie to.i remember a few years back, catching the bus to school, one of the stops was up on a bit of a ridge, and there was a valley about 5 or so km across, with the bottom of the valley no more than 200-250 metres below us, and a C130 Hercules cam out of no where, and was flying pretty much below us..i will never forget it, the weirdest sight ever.

Its pretty cool the first coupla times. After that its just a pain in the ass. I stayed at Williamstown base for a Basketball tournament last year when they had an exercise with the pigs from amberley. Every half hour a pair would take off at full noise. And as the ball stadium was right next to the flightline, everyone/thing just stops and waits for them to go. Its especially nasty when you have a fullhouse hangover....

I was on a uni camp down south in SA once, and a orion anti-sub aircraft came cruising right down the coach, about 5 out from shore, and seemed to barely clear the jetty we were on. When he got past us, they got on the gas, and just dissapeared upwards pretty damned fast.
