hey all, I will most probably get bagged out / laughed at by many of you elitists out there but eh I couldn't really care less..
anyway I'm after anyone who can help me out / give some advice. I am entering my van into the db drags this weekend, its my first db event I have ever been to / entered in to so I have no idea how it all happens. I was told to download a test tone cd, which I have done so and played through my system. how do I work out which is the right tone for my system??
I'm not particularly tech minded, I purchased the van as is and the previous owner had entered the van into autosalon and told me the stereo had been read at 150+db.... I'm not one to say thats bullcrap or not and I dont want to blow my system up so any help would be awesome
thanks
damien.

If you can, get on a meter before the day to find your peak frequency. If this is not possible, play a sweep in qualifying (doesn't have to be at full volume) and ask the guys running the lab, what you peaked at. Then play around the frequency you peaked at.

Look at that, your meter is already looking for a workout.
Good to see members helping to get others into the sport.

my question is your asking alot about "how would i to tune it" but my question is didnt you buy the van off someone that has used it to compete beforeas you said?
does it have the same enclosure still installed in it that they used to hit 150?
so what is actually in the van stereo components wise now?
type of set-up (enclosure wise)?
and whats powering it all?
enclosure size?
port dimensions and size?
if ya provided all that info people might have been able to answer ya question a bit easier.
just saying someone else has used the van and it did 150 doesnt mean it will do it again now that you have it.
but good luck with it all and good to see ya getting into SPL ask around as theres heaps to learn
anyway

remember, do the bulk of your testing a reasonably low volumes, this conserves battery power and keeps the woofers from getting too hot.
Then when you turn it up for full volume play approx 2hz lower to get your peak.
