Hey all,

I am in desperate need of an upgrade on my front stage in my recently purchased e36 1994. Now i have a pioneer 121 SPL woofer in my boot with out any rear speakers for more bass and i am loving it. I just need a good kickbass upgrade for upfront, what are my options?

Now the stock standard size upfront in my BMW the 1994 e36 is 5 1/4 ".

I have looked my self and their is craploads of room, is it possible to insert say a 6" coax/Split system instead? ( Only thing really stopping me from what i can see is basically the hole in the kicker panels is just so high that it leaves no room for anything bigger than a 5 1/4" I would need to cut Into my glove box which i dont really want to do if it can be avoided.) Now i am going too also need to compansate for the fairly long distance from the two front seats too the kickerpanels which will hold the splits. There honestly is about anywhere from 30-45cm gap between us sitting in the front too the speakers themselves. about 1metre too our ears. There are tweeters in the doors that can be replaced but just that minor issue of the gap from the speakers in the kickers to our ears.

I need somthing with very good, strong, hard bass for upfront as the stock splits just do not cut it! Also i dont think 5 1/4 splits are any good for bass...they are just physically too small to produce the slightest punch that im looking for in my new splits, and my budget for my front stage is anywhere from $250-400.

My Budget is anywhere from 250-400. Now 6 1/2" May be pushing the area i have too play with, hehe so yeah but i really need some hard bass upfront and i personally do not think that 5 1/4 will cut it...

They will be running off a jaycar 130x4 WRMS amplifier aswell.

Thanks for your time..

HI Eddie.

BMW kick's are great ares for mids smile.gif You will easily fit 6.5's in there, so long as the basket/magnet isn't massive. You will need to mods the std kick panel though.

See my thread here :- http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums/in...pic=49708&st=20

That's how I fit 8's in mine, now you don't need to go that complex, but the same couold easily be done for 6.5's and they'd sound great smile.gif If you are mechanically minded you shouldn't have too much trouble making a set of those, it's fairly simple, and the results look nice and factory smile.gif (bar the missmatched vinyl)

Tweeters will work in the factory locations, but you may find some phasing issues and unless you have seperate tweet/mid Time Alignment you may find it hard to stage perfectly.

Sounds Good, What i have in mind is as follows.

* Install my 5 1/4 powerplant speaker + tweeter in the parcel shelf ( Off jaycar 05 amp )
[ Currently off the HU now with out the tweeters and no crossovers installed just as yet as i want too
wait till i have my amp installed ]

* Find some very nice 6 1/5" ( Needs too have very very very hard deep bass kick ) If i can fit them in the
kick panels with tweeters in the door and my left over powerplant tweeters next to the
speaker in the kicks for that extra bit of clarity.

* Jaycar Amp either in the boot or under the front seat ( IF IT CAN FIT, BUT THE AMP IS LARGE )

* Sound Deaden my Parcel shelf, boot and kickers ( Once i save up the $$$$ ) Am thinking a bulk pack?

* Upgrade sony xplod HU to the Pioneer ones with a rotory controll aswell as all the pre-outs including sub
pre-out aswell as the woofer control and all the amazing EQ functions. Then once i have my new
Head-Unit i will tune the system too tip/top quality.

What do you guys think? Thanks

Also what is better for better bass, Decent top quality 6" Coax -
$100 - 350 or 6" splits? Mind you that i will have the tweeters in the doors aswell as the coax which comes in a tweeter and woofer cone in the kickers! I think the SQ will still sound great as i am in need of some nice deep bass upfront. I strongly am thinking going the 6" coax way with the powerplant tweeters in the doors...what are your views on this?

I got a pair off dd splits which can be run either coax or as component splits the one thing with what you plan on doing with the midbass in the kicks and tweeters in the door that unless you can tune the gain on tweeters seperately they might be a bit overbearing. your best bet would be to mount your mid and then experiment where to put the tweeter (blutac anyone?) i also have a pair of clarion coax's and they are nice sounding tight responsive midbass rather than the boomyness of the dd's but the dd is seriously one tough mid i payed 299 for my pair. i have my tweeters in the kicks and mids in sound deadened doors and that sounds real nice.
