I'm tossing up between these 2 the peerless is an 8ohm driver though but the total recoil is a 4. the total recoil is in the fs forum for $250 where the peerless new cost about that much.
they will be going with a pair of rainbow 4" profi's and tweeters from morel dotec splits in a 3 way setup. they dont need to go bellow 80hz and they'll be running off an eclipse ea3422 bridged so about 100wrms @4ohms on tap to play with.
what do you people think i have about 300 to spend on mids 6.5" is prefered because they will go straight into my doors no problems the 8" will take a fair bit of playing around and i doubt they will fit behind standard trim. the doors they are going in is ba falcon door.

suggestions people? mids for $300?

I've got the older model PHase lug 6.5's in my GF's doors. the HDS 850467, which I believe have now been supersceded. I'm running them in deadened doors with up to 250WRMS/side (jaycar 4x100 bridged) and they sound very nice.

They are only run full range atm, with the horrible std tweeters aiding the top end, so I can't comment fully on them, but they are very smooth right up to the hollow between the tweeter and thier natural roll-off. I will be adding some passives fairly soon and some 25mm neo peerless tweeters to compliment them which should sound nice.

They are a DEEP speaker though and do have a large magent structure, so that might be something to check out also.

I haven't driven the speakers off any other amp, so can't really comment on the amp's charateristics. TO be honest I haven't and can't critically listen to the system until the tweeters are in and it's crossed over properly, otherwise it isn't really fair.

thats fair enough lol if a system aint complete or dont sound good i get grumpy lol

I liked my TR 8" drivers although I didnt get to use them for long.
Their 6" drivers had a tonne of bass too. Very powerful speakers

What kind of sound are you after ? Whats the priority - loud, punchy, clear, deep etc
Ruger3
loud and clear is what i'm after looking for something with a flat respone curve to about 80hz doesnt have to go lower than that. but also clear up to about 1khz

The deepest speaker you can fit under the stock BA Door Trims is about 65-70mm

I bought focal K2P's planning to fit them under the stock BA Door trims, and I didn't have a hope, unless I left the windows up all the time. and this was with building them out 18mm from the stock position, and forcing the door trim out a bit.

What I ended up doing, was the stock Speaker Grills, they are plastic welded on, but it's only in like 8 positions that are a about 6-8mm wide. I just got a drill and drilled off the plastic welds, and the stock speaker grill falls off. leaving the door trim in tact. Which is very handy.

then I got some 18mm MDF and some I think it was 6mm MDF, I made a 6mm mdf cutout in the size of the hole in the door trim and put a 6.5" hole in it for my k2p's and glued it to a larger piece of 18mm mdf that sat behind it inside the door trim, and filled up 99% of the space between the door trim and the metal door skin, then I got a 16mm piece of MDF and cut it in the exact shape of the original Stock speaker grill, and covered it in the dark grey/blue coloured material that was very close to what they used on the top of the door, (I got it at a carpet wholesaler place) had the 6.5" hole in it in the stock location, and bolted it all together, and bolted all three layers of MDF to the metal door skin, creating a VERY stiff speaker mount. fitted up the speaker and it looks great and works great.

the downside is you can't fit the speaker grills on, but my focals come with a decorative surround so thats fine, and in the location they are in, it's impossible to touch them with your leg or damage them unless your a fool.

Juls have you got pics or a build up thread? i was considering this and am interested on how you did it. it takes a lot of guts to cut up a door trim on a new car.

i went to doran today and bought the digital designs component set mainly because the power it can take and the build quality of it is top notch
i was hesitant with the peerless i rang up wes and they wanted $156 each for the peerless drivers but my main problem was to be powering them. i really dont have room in my install to fit another amp (got more than you can count on one hand already) the dd's i like the sound of them and for the price i am impressed. the tweeter is quite harsh with the dd's but they are only acting as ambients and my morel tweeters do all the main tweeting.

also a problem i get is that when playing loud the side you are closest too sounds much louder than the opposite side (driver seat - right hand side very dominant over left) any tips on tuning it in any way or speaker placement to correct this? my tuning options are limited the headunit has a 3 band parametic eq (kenwood kdc7529) and im using a digital kenwood 3 way crossover (low pass, band pass, high pass).

I'll try get some pics later today.

in regards to the speaker sounding too close to you,

are you high mounting the tweeter up in the factory premium tweeter locations?
these are equal distance as the mids from your seated position so they are optimum.

I'd also suggest getting a head unit with Time alignment, this will fix alot of the problem,
although you won't eliminate it.

There isn't much you can do in regards to angles ect on the woofer in the BA. Not without serious hacking.

the way I took the Grills off the door, I can glue/screw them back on later. when I sell the car, the whole orginal stereo is still in tact ready to reinstall, well the only thing I removed was the speakers. I left the stock connections ect in place. and ran new wires.

if you pop your door skin off you can see immediately what i'm talking about, how easy it is just to remove the grill part, the door skin still has some plastic there holding the whole skin together, you put wood either side of it.
