hey guys,

i got sick of just having two speakers in the stock positions in my 92 celica. those who dont know the stock speakers are behind the front seats. i decided i wanted speakers in the kickpanels and i have a set of jaycar splits lyin around so im making pods to house those.

from my first idea to now things just havnt gone my way but im determined to do it. Heres what i have done so far, i took immitation molds of each kick panel with fibreglass so if i stuff up or when i sell the car i can simply put the originals back in and make it look like i never touched them. Once i had taken the cast of each kick panel i used my fiberglass kick panel that i made as my template and pod base and went from there.

Now for those who dont know behind each kick panel is a relay box for certain electrical components so i had to ensure my pods came out far enough so the speaker magnet would not hit the relay box. Thats easy enough for the passenger side but on the drivers sid there is absolutely no room for miscalculation of how far the pod can pretrude for the where the kick panel sits otherwise the pod would be in the way of the accelerator pedal. Anyway after hours of trial and error with the speaker position i decided to move the entire relay box. i took about a day doing this to ensure i did everything correctly and its all good now. i now have a correct size/shape speaker pods which im just in the process of glassing. im not sure what i will finish the pods off with whether it be paint or fabric if anyone has suggestions id like to hear them.

If any installer has ever succesfully put 6.5" componentis into a 92' or similar model celica id love to know any tips or see pics as to how you did it.

cheers,
Ben

i previously did some 5.25 sony es mids in the kicks. It was pretty hard trying to get an angle on them and was 1.5 cm away from accel. pedal. As such i binned the idea of getting kickpanels in as there just isn't enough room to play with unless you start cutting and re-reinforcing metal to get the angles.

I have also put alternative speakers in the factory 4" locations in the dash as well.

In hindsight, i would have chased up some door trims with the 8" grill. That way it would have been easier than setting up off axis mids blocked by feet.
Luckily i bought myself a GT4A and flicked the old GTR. The GT4A has system 10 setup in it with the 8"s in the doors smile.gif

wat do u mean glass the whole box mark i only needed to glass the bits tha were curved.

any ideas on how i should finish the pods as in what material

i was referring to the boot install, instead of carpet, fibreglasss it and paint it grey, would look very nice or vinyl. But still a very nice install.

By the way, hows the sub. Does it shake the whole boot. Im only giving mine 300wrms, and it shakes, but yours must shake violently. haha.

it does vibrate but i have used a fair bit of dynamat in the back so not too much for me to worry about.

i ran the same sub in my old lancer and that was in aported box made to kickers specs. now thet i have it in my celica its in a sealed box and i love the sound so much more. its only going by memery but i think the bass is just as loud as in my lancer. anyway just saying that like it has been mentioned before these subs sound so much better in sealed boxes than ported.

Is that an S15L7 or S12L7? Can't make out the model number on the terminals.

Oh, and nice install.
qup2cit
