Hi peoples, Im currently retrimming the whole interior of my car and inso I am choosing to upgrade the stereo at the same time.

Current Setup is as follows:

Alpine IVA - 310E Headunit
Alpine SPX 177R Front Stage
Alpine MRV F540 Front Amp
Alpine SWR 1242 SUB
Jaycar AA 0428 SUB AMP

So when upgrading system I am contemplating using the following:

Odessey battery
1 Farad Capacitor
Alpine 2006 Series DD linear Splits
Alpine Type X 12" sub SWX 1242
Alpine MRD 1001 Sub Amp

What do you guys think? Obviously the older products will be sold to make way for the new gear.

My music tastes are varied everything from Hardcore dance to RnB to Jazz to Rock to Pop

Just some ideas from you guys would be great . To let you know the car had Stinger Wiring + Roadkill in the doors and boot area

i have heard that the dd linears arent as good as the type x's
would be worth trying to at least get a listen to both before deciding.

when you get it done I'll grab the OEM unit from you smile.gif

OEM head unit went the day I bought the car lol

im assuming you are going to try the top of the range alpine dd linear series

they look great i just hope they live up to their very high price tag. these high end ddlinear are very rare and not many IF any people have heard these. If you are looking at the cheaper set of ddlinear they are a down grade from the spx setup.

you can keep your old spx series and use these in the rear doors. The rears have 5 1/4s but you can easily fit 6.5inch back there.

sounds like you know exactly what you want. I love alpine products and i think your selection should satisfy your needs.

Yeah jas the New pro series DD Linear splits which havent been officially released here yet but I heard them on the board and they just sounded simply amazing. Obviously I wanted the F1 Status 3 way front end which is $4500 but obviously a little too much for one product.

I was contemplating adding the middbass kit to my existing Type X splits for more up front bass, but my installer said stuff it the DD Linears just make a mockery of the Type X series, when I listened to them I couldnt believe all that sound was coming from one set of speakers.

The difference in output was stunning and the sharpness associated with the Type X tweeter is gone which I am happy about. but to tell you the truth I havent sampled many other front stage setups from different companies appart from Dynaudio which my friend has.

For those who can see my all in Alpine selection, the reason for this is simple I have had 7 complete stereos in my previous rides and the Alpine stuff can crank all day flat out and never break when tuned properly. For me this is the justification I need to buy a product. I am not shy to spend the dollars but I am open to suggestion of other products from members

Well personally, I prefer the TypeX over the DDLinears. They seem a little bit too bright. However, saying that if you like it thats they way you should look towards. What did you think about the dyns? Many has liked them heaps including judges lol.

And where are you planning to get a MRD-M1001 coz they have been discontinued for quite a while now lol.

And you should come to the comp on the 15th of April. there'll be heaps of setups you can listen to there.

dude how do you know this

there are two versions of the ddlinear series, the cheap set worth less than the type x's and the over $1k version. I must agree that the cheap ddlinear are very average and to my ear sound, well put it this way, not incredible.

i would love an audition of the new set they just look incredible.

I've had a listen to the high end Alpine DD linear splits, sounded terrible to me I'm not really sure how anyone could like them but each to there own. I'd stick to X type's or maybe make up an X type 3 way setup.

The speakers you are talking about are called the DDLinear Flagship series, DLX-F177 retails at $1299.

kov00: Not sure who is telling u this info, but they have been available for quite a few months now, and the F#1's retail for $3999, not $4500... If you didnt want to spend that much maybe try the 2-way F#1's which would cost you around $3000.

Anthony: the Flagships are miles in front of the normal DDLinears, and yes, I too think the normal series don't sound that great.

jas: We have them in our boards at work, and have heard them in car and they sound very nice, a little bright but that can be tweaked by bringing the attenuation down. Would love to have them side by side with Dyns!

Im always open to ideas thats why Im asking you guys, I am going to spend alot of cash on this setup so want to get the setup right. Is there anywhere I can listen to a setup of F1 Status? to compare with the DD Linears? Nowhere on the coast have I seen Dynaudio speakers and what is the sound off coming up most definately interested in coming along for a look

Also managed to source 2 x MRD-M1005 amps for $1200 for the 2 so Im going to get them and sell the Jaycar Amp I have in there atm.

2000WRMS should be ok for the Type X 12" wouldnt you say?

Has anyone seen the new Alpine PDX series stackable amps they look the business too?

Ummm Drew has the flagship one on his demo board, I am pretty sure. And yes they are still too bright for my ears. But then again I listen to dyns everyday so that might cause my perception.
kov00
who is drew and where are these stores?

Drew from Northfield at Moorooka. There is a huge range of speakers for you to demo there. All you need to do is bring your favourite cd there.
