Full Version: Replacing VT battery terminals

Hey,

I'm going to be replacing my VT's battery terminals but i'm not sure what terminals(Stinger) i'll need as my positive have 4-5 wires coming off it already... Most after market only have 3-4 holes to put wires in. I've been looking at the ones with posts on them to attach ring terminals but don't know how many rings terminals I can fit. Does anyone have pics of their's done? All the pics of other cars that i've found have only had 2-3 wires coming from the positive.

Also, the main power wire for the car has a "terminal thing" crimped onto the end. If I cut this off will it still reach? I cut the same thing off in my old Pulsar and the wire wouldn't reach the battery posts anymore mad.gif

I'm looking at the "PRO Ring Style" and "Dual Ring Style": http://www.stingerelectronics.com/web/prod...y_terminals.asp

Thanks.

Ive got directed audio terminals on my vt. They look the goods and are far better than wat i had on the battery originally. Nice little voltage readout also.

Thanks.

Sorry, just to clarify, this thread is primarily about replacing the terminals and how to do it, not asking what terminals to use smile.gif

I need to know what was done with all the stock wires... Did you put ring terminals on them all? Did your new battery terminal have enough holes to fit all the stock wiring? Did the main stock power wire still reach after you can the stock terminal off?

Running 0 guage already I assume?
If you are, I'd go a terminal with 2 0 guage outputs and then run 1 length of 0 guage to a distro block for all your factory wires. Thats what I'm doing in the BA(expert series terminals).
Even if your not running 0 guage, that would still do the job nicely.

Cheers, I didn't think of a dist. block... That'd keep the battery looking neat not having all the crusty stock wires there.

[edit]
Currently running 2ga but will be running 0ga.

bob... What'd you use for your negative terminal? That expert terminal only comes in positive according to their site.

way to go, and is what i've done in my (non-holden/ford) car too:

i custom-fabricated the bracket the holds the DB with some aluminium stripping, bent and painted, then bolted to a convenient factory/existing bolt.

How'd you attach the the 2 or 0ga wire to the stock?
bob
I've got an expert series negative terminal too. It's got a thin copper sleeve that goes on the inside of it.
Your drawing is spot on btw.

A high temperature soldering iron should handle joining the wires together, but I won't be bothering with attatching extra wires. A butane torch would do the trick also.

Jaycar make a cable joiner. Comes in 4 and 8 gauge. Its what ill be using.

Thanks, I think i'll just make them fit the dist block though smile.gif
