Hi there Guys,

I recently bought a 2006 SP23, and am getting a lot of conflicting opinions as to what can be done about the stock head unit. I really am addicted to quality car sound and wanted to replace the "stocko" with my Alpine CDA-9851 as well as running some other audio equipment off a couple of amps.

Unfortunately, reading the forums it seems that replacing the stock head unit, I will also loose the LCD display, which shows handy things like the climate control settings ... really do not want to loose this ...

In Brisbane I have Gold Coast Car Sound pretty darn adamant that they can fit the Alpine HU and retain the LCD display ... on the other hand, there is Northfield (MacGregor and Moorooka) saying NO! it cannot be done without loosing the LCD ...

Please help guys ... i'm getting things installed this Wednesday coming ... just running a pretty decent Line Output Converter ... i know this won't be as good as running RCA's though and was wondering if there was any way (apart from stock HU under seat) to install an aftermarket HU and retain the LCD display ????

Thanks for your time,
Cheers, Vasso

if the guys at gccs say it can be kept then why dont u get them to install your hu, surely if they say it can be done they can do it.
also if you were going to relocate the stock hu surely into the glovebox would be better than under the seat

good luck with it
