UPDATE, BOX IS NOW 440mm HIGH, NOT 460, HOW LONG DOES THE SLOT PORT HAVE TO BE NOW, STILL 350MM ???

ATT: DD PHIL

It might help to use all metric measurements instead of mixing

Have a look at my thread "How to use the CAA enclosure calculator in Metric - with only one conversion"

If it gets you even more confused then of course don't do it that way but it cuts out a lot of work if you can get the hang of it.

Hope someone can help with the porting etc. It's way too technical for me!

cheers

what are you aiming to tune the box to? why don't you contact DD Phil as he has good experience with these subs? smile.gif

i would otherwise aim to tune to ~30Hz. if using round 4" inner diameter ports, i'd use 2 (which means if you're adding a divider, one per chamber. two 4x9" ports should do it.

How thick is the wood?

Where are the woofers going?

Phil

Wood is 18mm MDF
Woofers will be mounted on the straight face, the angled face is the back
this kinda box is going to give me quite a loud system yes ? im running the subs off a kicker 1200.1
DD Phil
OK, so we have 187.6lt gross.

Allowing for port and woofer displacement, and tuning to 35Hz make a single slot port in the middle of the box. Mount the woofers close the port.

The port should be 424mm tall (box height), 75mm wide and 350mm deep.

Ok thanks for that, do i make 2 ports then ? coz i have a centre chamber or do i not even put the centre chamber in and just make the slot port dead in the middle of the box

If by center chamber you mean divider then no.

slight change of plans, my mate who is getting th box cut may not have enough 18mm and has offered to do the whole box in 32mm MDF if he does run out but iwll make it smaller to give me the same overall size as per first post

what would you make the port sizing if this is the case phil, Sorry
reefhog
It would be better if you design the box to be the right size to suit the subs.

I will now have to make the port 404mm in height (which will fit in the new box height of 440, do i still make it 350mm deep, or do i have to make it 20mm longer now?

Still 75mm Wide too???

You use the top and bottom of the box as two sides of the port.

The port height will be the same as the internal box height.

I've attached an example, the port is on the side of it but the idea is the same.

What are the new internal dimensions, I'll need to re-calutate the box volume and port.

Ok, it's down to 178.7lt,

Make the port 404mm high, 80mm wide and 355mm deep/long.

So you'll need to cut a hole in the front of the box 80x404 and cut to pieces for the ports 404x337mm which fix in behind.

There is no one "perfect" sized box.

Ported boxes are very flexible, you can build them to suit your needs and music tastes.

I just saw your PM about the box not fitting in the boot in one go.

This happens often with big boxes (or small box openings). smile.gif

I'll drill and screw it together, then disassemble it and put it together inside the boot. I guess it depends how hardcore you are. smile.gif

You can probably have the bottom and sides in one piece (check first), as these are the hard ones to do.
