Hi All
I've had a bit of car audio experience, but I'm still kind of a noob compared to installations I've seen here.
I own a 1996 Daewoo Cielo hatch and need some inspiration. I want to make some door pods for some speakers but its a tight squeeze below and infront of the window winder. I have a pair of 4" coaxials that I can easily fit, but after reading some comments I'm considering a pair of 6" response splits. As I don't really want to sell them with the car (if anyone would buy it) I need a few suggestions on mounting them (I cant leave big holes.)

Otherwise how can I make new door trims to fit when the originals roll over the top of the window sill?

thanks in advance (i'll post pictures when I get the chance.)

Ben

Btw: I don't really subscribe to the "the door is an enclosure" crowd. Wouldn't the doors volume be as effective as an infinte baffle, given the size of the drivers used in the door? Like I say I'm pretty new to door installations, so if people would like to explain, feel free.

Ok, to start off with, door speakers need air to breath,so they need to breath into the door cavity(whether it's the right volume for it or not)so if you don't your speaker will do what i call "farting"(trying to push the air behind it back out the speaker cone). Will not sound to good.
1.Building new door trims is going the long way,but you can do a full custom door trim to incorporate speaker, armrest, window winder and door handle.Get twodoor cards from the wreckers, have a look at how they hook on the door and do what you have to incorporate that and go from there.
2.Builing door pods, take door card off, wind window down, check depth with the window down, window rails, check where window winder swings around. The shape and configuration of your door pod is up to you ensuring the door pods don't obstruct anything else.
TAKE YOUR TIME,DON'T RUSH IT.

your not using the door as a specific enclosure as you say it is semi-infinte baffle, the main part of door speakers/ midbasses is that the front is completely seperated from the back with no air leaks.
air leaks = no midbass
if i were u, i would get the second set of door cards a thought and hack them to install your new speakers and replace them wth the old ones if/when u sell the car

Or you could just cut a hole in the door car and mount them on a spacer/pod. When you sell the car fabricate a "kick panel" of sorts out of some thin MDF to cover the hole and surrounding door area.
