Hi everyone, thought that I'd throw this out to the masses..
Recently I had to change the battery for the S15, and of course the radio pin has been lost. Have gone to Nissan and got it but thought what the heck, will install that nice Sony system that I've had sitting in it's box in a cupboard..

Things were going great. Unit powers up, CD's play no probs, even had the left/ride/front/rear speakers hooked up the right way.

Then I tried the radio.. Noticed that the radio was only playing static, and very quiet static at that. Knowing that the S15 has the antenna amp I've hooked the amp remote power up to the correct wire back to it. Doesn't make any difference at all though. Radio still only has quiet static and when I tune it to a known radio station no change..

The only thing that I can think of is that the standard nissan antenna plug is different to what the Sony H/U is looking for. When I dissconnect the antenna cable there is no change in the radio static at all. In the Sony manual there is something about an adapter but the installer that did the job in the old car must not have needed to use it, so no adapter.. Not sure if this is it though cause I think that it's a euro conversion adapter.

Anyone have any idea what's the next thing to try? help.gif

just did one of these this morn.
antenna is wht/blk on the main plug. if its not connected you get what you have,
plugs are plugs- the sony isn't fussy. you you have another sony you can try?

Yep done that.. Even checked the voltage with the radio turned on on the connector for the wire (+12V). It's got me really scratching my head. nea.gif I don't have another Sony to try but the original radio is working fine..
Audio Express
only thing I put it down to is a knackered sony..

My old S14 had diversity antennas - the electric one, and another built in to the rear window - I fitted a standard radio antenna plug to the electric one in the boot, and just ran an extension to the radio - worked fine.

this is a S15 though. no diversity. inglass antenna in rear.

I know you've probably done it, but did you check the continuity in the antenna lead? Is a broken antenna lead a possible source for this problem?

Cheers - OT.

Checked the lead by hooking up the std stereo. Radio works fine with it installed. I did though check the continuity of the connector on the Sony to the PCB.. It's a CDX-M700 which has the connection on it's own lead rather than built into the unit. That checked out fine as well though..
