Hey guys,
I was just wondering how everyone here who can PROPERLY install car audio, not just head units learnt how to do so?
Were TAFE courses involved or did u just self teach yourself through trial and error on ur own cars?
Cheers

experience. lots of people tried and succeeded, some can get work experience at car audio installers, some might have friends who are professional installers. i've also heard of some courses being run over east but i feel a professional installer could have jsut done some cabnet making classes and has a very good understanding of electricity and has experience with fibreglass.

Here. I gained a large majority of my theoretical knowladge here, then it was just a matter of getting the time to try it out, screw it up, then do it again.

actually no.
Electronics degree and an auto electrical cert. box building and FG is done by trial and error.
I must be pretty good at trial and error

Cutting your teeth on your own car is alot different to working on a customers car,you can't look at it as your own car and just think, running that wire like that will be ok,it has got to be perfect the first time otherwise it comes back with a very irrate customer.

and when you have done 5 of your own cars, not to mention 4 different installs in the current one, you get to know what works and what doesnt..
for most DIY'ers, trial and error is the only way..
i think Domza found that out when we did a head unit/amp/front install..
but the boot install side of things comes from a logical mind, and one that sees the finished product before it starts.. oh.. and carpentry/cabinet making skills are a must..

I did work experience at a car audio store in year 10. That's where I learnt the basics. Always had an interest in electronics, doing a Cert II in it. After doing a lot of different things to my old car, I ended up asa fitter for a while.
Thats where I realised what is good as a hobby isn't always good as a job.
As said, fabrication is learnt by trial and error.
