Hey,
I'm looking for a change of tyres... I've been using Toyo Trampio or something for my last few sets as my local Tyrepower recommended them as being a decent tyre for the money ($125/tyre). But recently i've noticed that the Tyrepower store has awards from Toyo for selling so many tyres... So I can't believe their recommendation anymore. I was looking at Pirelli last time for around the same price but the sales person recommended against them as you're just paying for a brand name. The Toyo's have been fine, but i'd like to change so I have something to compare them to.
Anyone know some decent tyres for $125-150 that are good in the wet and dry and not too noisy? I have 215/60/R15's on now.
Thanks

mm, the pirelli P6 is a good tyre, its designed for higher class cars, therfore is nice and quiet, but good grip in the wet and dry, coz of the heavier cars its suppose to carry..i think there about 150...my mum had em on her vt commy, before that she had bridgestone, and there was a huge improvement...or the yokohama s306...good in the wet so ive heard, bout 130

Had the Pirelli P6000's and hated them, never had worse performance out of a set of tyres. They felt like I had put worse tyres on that the low-tread tyres I was replacing.
Have since switched to BF Goodrich Sport T/A's, @ $123 each.
Extremely satisified with their performance so far, 10'000kms on. Great in the dry and grippy in the wet. Your choice though

i hear lots of good stuff about the bridgstone g-grids. frinds have used them alot.
all i know is that they smoke good.... and wear down quick. is that the soft compound or the skids?
anyway im running silverstones [205/40/17 is a bit different in size] but i wouldnt recomend them for a quiet tyre. very noisy at 30k to 80k after that i cant hear over the exhaust.
the bridgestone sp sports 6000 [i think it was 6000 or 3000] were really nice quiet and good for grip [good for track days] but not the best in the wet [alot of walking but at that time i have very little castor which helps to add to that effect.]
i had parellies for a while and didnt have any problems with them [about 1000-1500kms on the rear] seemed very grippy in the wet compared to the bridgestones.
i can recomend sylica tyre as they out perform any others weve used on the track for grip but they cost a little extra.

Yeah, P6000 were the ones I was looking at last time but was recommended not to get them. Sounds like the sales guy was being honest about them

Recommendations so far:
- Yokohama S306
- BF Goodrich Sport T/A
- Bridgstone G-Grids
Any others or comments on the ones listed so far?
Thanks for the help so far.

i have falken ze-512 so far have got 10-15000 and are nearly to the indicators (1-2mm left) they have excellent grip, even more in the wet. i couldve had more mileage from them but i tend to speed through corners :s

were great and looked good
i think $115 a tyre from a bridgestone tyre centre
another good one is the yokohama A539 with a cross hatch tread

10 - 15k isn't real flash for a set of tyres by my standards!! I treat mine pretty good, but still i'd have to be trying to get throught them in only 15,000 k's

plenty of grip...great tyre..but expensive at $340each.

kuhmo ecsta
nankang ns-2
both cheap and pretty good all rounders
Had the ecsta's and had no problems, nice grippy cheap tyre... now have some BFGoodrich ones (g-force sport) and are quite dissapointed - cost me around 200 each - although 235/45/r17, and they arent as good as the kuhmo's imo - definately not the best in the wet either... fun though

Edit - kuhmo's and nankang's are around the $150-160 mark for 235's so not sure for the smaller sizes (if they even make them, but i assume they do)

good tyres will wear quickly, thats what makes em good.
check out some michellin pilot sports, theyre a bit pricey but well worth it.
i got 255/45/r17's for my rears and they were the best tyres i've had so got them for mums is200 when she needed to replace hers. I think it came to like 200 each for 215/something/r16's so its just a bit above ur bracket.
great tyres but dunno how long they'll last (mine didnt for long..hers is though).

I switched from OEM bridgestone re030's (i think that is what they were) on my liberty to Kuhmo KU31's and i must say the Kumho's are a great tyre!
I don't get any more tramlining. Great in the wet and corner like they are on rails. Paid 180 a corner for them. 205/50/16's

I know I'm joining late ... but
I just put a set of Toyo Proxes 4 on my car and find them to be an excellent tyre. Don't know how much they'd be in your size, they were a bit more than that for my car - but I think they're as good as anything I've had before (including Goodyear Eagle F1-G2 and Revspecs).

Pirelli P6000's are terrible. Worn my rears out in 20 000kms, no burnouts.. some dude told me they are a mud and snow tyre 'MNS' and dont really suit australian Hot conditions.. also soft compound dont last..
