looks like Soundstream are re-releasing the reference range of gear.
whispers tell me it's just a repackaged version of one of there other amps.

QUOTE (From Soundstream Site)
What exactly is a ‘REFERENCE standard’? Well it’s a bench-mark you look-up to and endeavor to achieve; the standard you adopt as your own or refer to; and even by which you may chose to judge your own performance. Prior to the inception of Soundstream’s REFERENCE series of amplifiers, no other company had ever brought either of these concepts to the fore: all connections on one side, fully adaptable power supply for either SQ or SPL applications, the use of 1% and 2%
tolerance resistors and separate L & R level adjustments…yes we started it all and don’t forget that! Today thankfully, advanced technologies in small-signal processing and MEGA-FET power devices, makes it possible for a complete and faithful re-introduction of these phenomenal sound processing machines, minus the added cost of 2% resistors for example and high-count B-FET devices.

So, Soundstream is the absolute unmitigated FIRST to establish an audio amplifier REFERENCE standard for all others to follow and consequently, set it self apart from the rest that worked! There are definitely a lot of copy-cats out there today; trying to “steal our thunder”; but not to worry, we’ve huddled & planned for the follow-up, enter the new
REFERENCE (encore) series:
Every a bit a chip-off-the-old-block in terms of flawless sound reproduction PLUS; we have gone to work to introduce some serious enhancements like these: 4.5:1 Power Supply capacity to audio output power ratio, laser-cut precision gapped-core toroidal transformers, polystyrene caps in the input stages, high-speed JFET OP amps with high CMRR factors and precision tracking VRs.

does anyone else have any information on them?

i would guess they are doing a rockford, relesing old looking amps with new internals.
nemesis
holy crap they look identical, but i'd have to agree on assuming they're not going to have much on the originals sad.gif
Pulse-R
but they don't use the '2%' resistors anymore... I'd think 1% would be preferable...

look sexxy tho
BMWTurbo
Hrrrmmm Interesting... I finally hunted down a pair of 'real' Ref's recently...

yeah i know ya bastard! tongue.gif

would love to open one of these and see what the go is inside...

Soundstream Aust are you looking at this wink.gif
MADTRAV
Where are these rumours originating from......

I believe they are the internals from the Van Gogh range, besides anything made after they've been taken over is garbage IMO
APS
All the latest Soundstream equipment is entirely made in China.
Stooge007
as is the majority of equipment these days.

does it matter to me?

nope smile.gif

blah, blah my amp was made in the USA blah, blah

anyway, would also like to see/hear one of these

I never said whether thats a good or a bad thing why do you assume its meant to be bad.

I just said that it is not the original Reference equipment as far as i know.

The latest stuff is Made in China.
Midol
I'd rather my stuff made in China than the USA. The amount of illegals in America chances are it is made by them anyway.
Pulse-R
I would hope that a 'reference' amplifier was made to some standard of excellence, but then I guess that's marketing for you... who's reference is it?
BMWTurbo
Internals of the little Ref300 amp.

Rated 2x75WRMS 4ohm's

or 300WRMS into 1,2,4ohm mono.
Fudd
love that amp guts site biggrin.gif

old class A SS -

see how easy it is to make a good amp?
Pulse-R
Old one looks nicer - more elegant design, like art.
new one just looks like engineers design.

Both the images above, Fud's and my post are Original SS ref amps from the same Era.

the one i posted was a class A 100II a couple of years older but not much..

2 x 50W @ 4 ohms (<0.1% THD)
2 x 80W @ 2 ohms
1 x 160W @ 4 ohms bridged
Fuse: Internal 10A AGU for power supply, 2 x 5A ATC for output

Can be optimized for 2 or 4 ohms stereo and 4 or 8 ohms bridged
1 Ohm stereo stable

how about this - the davinchi

mmm 7 channels of goodness!
nemesis
....

Pulse-R
I'm assuming the 7th channel is the fat terminals on the right, for the sub?

still not as old skool as the class A

I want a Davinchi...

What do these sell for now? I love the idea of running a whole system from one amp smile.gif

Well i did have 2 at one stage after coming back from Canada, unfortunately had to sell them both one in vgc the other ok i think i got 3k and 2.5k for them but that was 2.5 years ago. The better one also had an extra BLT although not gold plated like the original. I think one in new/mint condition would be worth tracking down as the gold plating is pretty thin and they scratch SOOOO easily! I will be looking for another as soon as i can afford it!
Damn those photos sure bring back the memories!
Rich
Ah yes, the old Soundstream... made long before 'Lil Wonder' monitors and stubbie holders sad.gif

I use and recommend old Soundstream folks... rofl.gif

it's just so phat. Damn phat.

Alas, like HiFonics, Orion, and many others, things aren't quite like they used to be. Even Alpine gives ratings at 14.4 volts and 2 ohms now sad.gif
