Hi,

I'm about to embark on installing my new Focal 165K2P components into my car and need some guidance with respect to the tweeter install.

The current tweeter is an OEM Nokia 2" Tweeter, which sits just above the midbass speaker in the door.

Below is a pic of how it looks (mine is a black door though).

I'm not sure how I'm going to mount the 1" TN52 tweeter in this spot, since the hole is for the factory 2" tweeter sad.gif

Any ideas/suggestions? Should I gut out the existing 2" tweeter and mount the 1" in there, or should I just relocate the new tweeter to another area, further closer to the dash, or mounted on the A-Pillar?

Advice appreciated smile.gif

as long as the woofer doesn't leak air around the tweeter, put the new one behind the factory grille, with (say) and MDF ring around it to match the factory screw holes...

normally, the maximum distance between tweeter and midbass is no more than 50cm or else you have to play a lot of time allignment here... and harder to make a good sound stage... if possible, build tweeter housing on the a pillar make sure that it is on the same ear level... remove the factory mid grill, make a custom panel on the factory panel and flash mount the speaker on the panel... it makes the midbass sound clearer and help the stage up on the dashboard...

Cool, thanks guys. I guess the factory did a lot of research with respect to the acoustics in my model car, so the spot where the original sits is probably the best, right?

Hell no. you'll find that the factory position for tweeters generally IS NOT The best location for SQ...except perhaps some very modern cars.

Also, it probably wont suit your personal taste.

So, get a long length of speakerwire for your tweeter, and some blue-tac. Have a play around. See where you like your tweeters best wink.gif

Thanks for the tip.

A guy on the beginners forum told me that the tweeter should ideally be the same distance from your/my ear to the Mid-Bass, so I should get a measuring tape, measure the distance from my right ear to the midbass and then position the tweeter at the same distance on the upper part of the door. The equal length will ensure no separation occurs and I can get very good imaging by doing this.

I think that's the path I'll take.

Question:

Is it better to FLUSH surface mount the tweeter IN the door, or mount the tweeter in the pod, angled at either 10 or 30 degrees? They are the only two angles possible with the Focal's TN52 Pod.
