Does anyone know of a media player that will play FLAC files, i normally used VLC, but its not displaying the visual side of the files. it only plays the audio tracks.

Do FLAC have visuals??? I use a plugin for Winamp, so i've only ever had sound...

I'm pretty sure Winamp plays these files

I have an album in FLAC mode and I was looking for a media player for it too... this is what I was told to use... I haven't had the chance to find out

So... try it biggrin.gif

Oh ok... The .flac files i've got have been 100-200MB music albums with individual files for each track.

.FLAC is a lossless compression format, as opposed to e.g .mp3, .wma, .ogg, which are lossy compression.

This means you can play them back and get a bit-accurate rendition of the original .wav files, with no loss to compression.

You can squash your .wave files down to about 55% of their original size with lossless formats. I use lossless whenever I feel that 192kbit mp3 won't sufficiently capture a recording.

Also check out .ape (ape lossless), and Apple Lossless compression (the latter comes with iTunes, and will also play back on your iPod :-p

Sorry guys, .flac doesn't do video...

Cheers!

Go there if you want to play FLAC on Windows Media Player.

Foobar can also play FLAC files out of the box. Great little media player too. Takes up almost no resources.

foobar is what i use. Great "Batch rename" features from id3 tags etc.
I've got to organise over 10,000 songs very succinctly too.

Love the feature list - does look useful.

That said, my word, it's ugly :-p

I still use itunes at home, and for work. It's bloated, no question, but it's packed with features, and makes labelling up those ID3s pretty painless. It also means I can use my iPod fairly painlessly. For my work, it's about the quickest way to get around sound effects libraries I've found on a PC.

Plus, it's shiny :-)
