Was looking at an ad on foxtel for Daihatsu and on close inspection t hey are using a CD3402 Eclipse Head unit!
Seems like agreat move to me, manufacturers are stepping away from integrated dash's and actually using conventional head units! And high quality ones at that!

i think you'll find it isnt a move by daihatsu to break away from integrated dashes, but simply, putting eclipse decks in their cars probably makes economic sense

I think moving to Pioneer or similar headunits would be a better move for them.... Pioneer decks would probably be a bit cheaper AND they are a MUCH better known brand to normal consumers...
Most people would see an eclipse headunit and have no idea of their quality...

I can see a new slogan...
"We can't make cars, we can't make ads, but our stereos are well l33t"
Well, maybe not, but who is going to really notice a fancy CD player in a charade?

It quiet common for many OEM stereos to be made by aftermarket companies and most of the time they are using the same stuff you can buy aftermarket.

It is more common in the euro and us markets. Some of them are even using external amps (hmm, OEM deck with RCA out....).
They even get premium systems that don't suck, lucky.
