im only 17 atm but im looking for another car.
iv currently got the alfa and i am into the older euro looks. i want it to be DIFFERENT [note the alfa] i dont want no vh or vl... its all been done by almost every commodore owner before so not much is new on the scene for comms.

id perfer a 4cl but a straight 6 or 3 is acceptable. non turbo because of up comming laws[doesnt bother me anyway]. rear wheel drive 90% but maybe talked into a fwd. power acc arnt needed.
fuel injection would be loved but the era im looking into doesnt really accomodate for it till the engine conversion bug hits...

ebay is a good start to look for cheap and different cars as not many people ever get the price that the car is worth and i would only pay on pick up and after a heft look over etc

---------------

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Citroen-ID19-1964_W...1QQcmdZViewItem

look at that. thats different. i havent seen one of them getting around ever [besides at my uncles wedding]. id french the head lights. letter box the center grill [remove the whole center section and leave the outer bumpers even]. deffinetly deep dish rims. and a very gentle bonnet vent.
for the rear of the car id extend those roof rails\gutters all the way down to the tail lights with crome piping with a spioler in between the two supported by the rails.

one of the best things is that the car has HYDROLICS from the factory. lowers when turned off and raises when on also addjustable by switchs for when ever you want.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Austin-1800-Mk-II-s...1QQcmdZViewItem

this would have to go pimp style with deep dish chrome rims lowered. painted black or really dark near black. crome strips under windows etc [that stripe down the side of the car maybe]. limo tint. scuicide rear doors and continue on the wood grain int with lots of studded leather [the buttons in the leather seats and diamonds stiching or something old fashoned and pimpy].

can anyone point out any cars that might fit what im looking for
any opinions

Try and find yourself an imported MkII Ford Escort RS2000, they are a great little goer. The imported ones have more power then the Australian built ones but the aussies ones still go great. They can be had easily for under $5000 aswell.
jazig.k
i wanna steer away from the common manufactures like ford holden subaru [wouldnt mind a imported RS legacy but not yet] nissan etc.
the ones iv pointed out are citroen and an austin

Get a car under $5k, thats not from a common locally supported manufacturer, and your going to get raped on parts.
Audio Express
x2. price the parts on that DS before yo consider it, the struts are 1000-1500 EACH!

the austin- again parts.

stick with something local and parts wont be an issue.

L series wagons (subaru -85-94) are well into that price range and in the ones after 89 they are injected. more than capable for a bit if fun and if you can find one thye are available as an import in TURBO 4wd form (whcih is what mine started out as before I dumped a twin turbo in it.)

look more at the touring wagons as they had full electrics. all were 4wd and all are VERY capable offroaders.

from the toyota clan you got the sprinter (AE86) hard to find one in good nick that hasnt been flogged to within an inch of its life...unless its already converted to the EFI engine you would be after a JDM model as the Aus Spec are not that flash

im not sure on the pricing but the MR2 (AW11) you might be able to pick up for around the price you are after

as its already been said $5000 isnt alot for something unique and then you will get raped for parts

i guess you are planning some work on it so paint etc isnt going to be a top priority
Audio Express
AW11 you can get for a lot less than that if you know where to look wink.gif

AE86 gets stupid money out here as all the wannabe drifters buy them, stuff them and onsell to teh next sucker..

with all the fuss about the parts cost, remember my alfa?? it certinly aint no vn craptywhore with a half cut for $11.50 kinda parts cost.

when i was still learning to drive this thing i hit a short rock wall which smashed the indicator lense and pushed some of the panel in. good learing experience.
the new lense set dad back $170 and i fixed the pannel work all myself [have done with the whole car, so i know my way around rust, repairs etc].

another small but regular part that needs attention is tho 'dough nuts'. the drive shaft is a two piece joing with rubber dough nuts instead of the normal uni's. these range from 180 for the center to 250 for the front. expencive but i dont mid paying that if it need them so i can have my unique car.

parts can be had cheaper if you know where to look [ebay if its a trusted seller, parts dealer, forums etc.]and what theyre worth. alot of ppl get ripped because they dont know what its worth or who theyre dealing with.

i have bought stuff off ebay for other alfa models and the dealer i usually get stuff from will let me trade stuff. i got a steering colum cover from $10ebay and traded for a rrp$60new because mine was new and worth about the same too. getting friends in the right areas helps.
FalconBoy
for small parts yeh sure its fine. But when the engine or gearbox goes or maybe it needs a new diff. Dont take this the wrong way but if you are only looking at a car around $5000 your not going to be able to afford parts to fix the type of cars your looking at. The motor blew in my EB and I picked up a replacement motor for $150 and it cost you $170 for an indicator lense.

engines for alfas are really common, can pick one up, without the weber carbies, for $100. iv got another one in my shed which i only payed $50 for. its mainly the stuff which doesnt last, like lights and other parts which need replacing over time.

i just dont want a car which someone else around town hasnt done up, and that most ppl have seen but never thought about them, or thought of doing one up.

stick with an a alfa smile.gif
jazig.k
stooge -- they are nice and certinly not many clean ones around, but id definetly have to get a wags...not a fan of sedans, perfer hatches and wagons. you seen the green wagon that was cover car for street machine?? thats tuff.

fudd -- yeah thats what im thinking since i already have an abundance of growing contacts for cheap parts and tonns of know how for these cars.

SC -- i know of at least 6 GTV's and GTV6's. not many, which is good since its easy to make mine stand out from the crowd with something that hasnt been done to these before.

OK now it may seem bias cause of what im about to say but it sort of covers most of his bases.

95 Xi Verada.
V6, Auto, parts are pretty cheap, very very nice car, pretty rare these days.

If your lucky you will find them owned by grannies and some older folk, but be careful if you buy of the youngun's, they tend to thrash em alot.

tehy are fuel injected aswell, and bodys are almost always more then 90% condition..

Its a unquie car to have, and would be even more unique to do up

Good luck with whatever car you choose!
jazig.k
do they come in manual? its gotta be manual... and who makes them, never heard of them b4... ill google it now... and fwd or rwd?

TUFFTR
