Full Version: Looking for a 2.5" to 3" midrange?

I'm looking for a smallish midrange speaker around 2.5" to 3" maximum to replace my stock dash mounted mids.
I require a flat response from around 300hz to 3khz. At pinch I may be prepared to start at 500hz if nothing else is available in those sizes. Any suggestion gladly accepted - Cheers!

Thanks. That is exactly what I was looking for.

Believe it or not the Dai-1Chi 2.5" mid-woofer will fit the bill perfectly. If the frequency response graph is accurate then the rising response from around 1.5khz to 2khz will almost exactly compensate for the falling 90 degree off-axis response which itself begins at around the same frequencies with a speaker of this size. This should mean minimal equalisation will be required.

These are to be dash mounted in the original factory locations (facing upward) and crossed over to Vifa 1" silk domes (mounted on-axis in the 'A' pillars) @ 2khz using a 24db/octave active crossover.

Very impressed so far... but they are only 85 db sensitivity compared to the cdm54's 91 db.

So still running passive until i can be arsed rewiring everything. So at the moment midrange is a tad quiet compared to the tweets.

Besides that I can turn my midbasses off and the 3's could 'almost' blend into the sub... Very impressive smile.gif

They play so low, have them crossed at ~150 now but definetly suit an active setup for me due to the differences in my tweets.

In comparison to the cdm54 (keeping in mind they are still running passive of a crossover designed for the supremo and cdm54.) They are very sharp and accurate. They are missing that smoothness/warmth that the dome had. I noticed a few different sounds here and there that I hadn't heard before in some pieces of music.

In terms of staging they are sitting much deeper in the kicks, (as deep as they will go, venting into the kickpanel. Install is still a little ghetto as I thought I might have been able to get them ready for the test n tune today.

Will let you know over the next few weeks how they go, and will be up and running at round 3 Vic Caasq.
