Any suggestions for good camping areas along the south or north coasts of NSW? Don't realy want to go anywhere more than 3-4 hours away from Syd but.

Just looking for camping grounds where you can pitch a tent etc, but still have access to public amentities. On or near a beach would be sweet

Any idea of cost?

Mungo Brush, near Hawks Nest. Rough guess of 3 hours north of Sydney. Loads of camping spots with the lake on one side and 9 Mile Beach on the other with some hugs dunes, nice waves and white sand. Amazing spot. Plus, keep driving North along the road and there's a ferry that takes you and you car across every hour on the hour.

My parents informed me that there are no places under $20 a night nowadays, is this true?

A friend just stayed at a place in Coffs Harbour... $34 for 4 of them.

(Mungo Brush, which I mentioned earlier, is like $10)

i went road / surf trippin up north with 3 other friends. cost bout $20-$30 a nite for all of us

avoca beach is only like 1-2 hours north of syd, theres a camp / caravan site there.
we rocked up there at like 9pm and were still given a acess. the beach is huge, but watch out for sea lice there!

creasant head!!! couldnt reccomend it more!!! its a tiny town that consists of caravan park (tent ground), rsl and nite club. everyone there surfs. the beach is HUGE, its where they have long boarding championships, but meh i was there on a short board, had heaps of fun.
but it is like 5-7 hours north, cant even remember now. dam i wanna go again!!

[/quote]Couldn't recommend it LESS. The WORST family holiday i ever had.

It is great if u are passing through, but not camping etc. Without trying to sound racist... the aboriginal population there is out of control.

The first nite we were there we had our Esky stolen, the guys across from us had there brand new bike stolen (which was lifted over the 3m high poll it was chained to).

We found our esky a week later across the little bridge leading to the aboriginal caravan community.

The police informed us this was a common occurence (he was doing a drive by the next morning so dad spoke with him). He told us to check out near the bridge, he was spot on.

Stay clear.

Ok guys, I have decided to head up to the Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest area's, will find a decent camping ground there somewhere.

Obviously won't be online for a bit, so wish me luck and I will see you all when I return

See. Two words in that post that ticked it: Family Holiday.

Seal Rocks. Nice remote and cheap camping ground with good facilities and beaches.

Strongly don't recommend camping illegally me and a couple of mates almost got hit with over $3k of fines.

seal rocks ****ign owns!! went up there in janurary this year.. i think we were there 4 nights, cost me $35 iirc. fkkn beautiful beaches, good facilities... its a bit away from major facilities (ie. shops, movies etc), which is a pain in the **** once the camping in the rain novelty wears off on a bad night, but personally i was trying to get away from shops etc. there was a small shop up the road with fresh meat and ice and smokes and batteries and fishing stuff etc etc etc... but they had a monopoly on prices and boy did they know it... haha..

i had a great time though... to get ther from sydney, drive north. when you get ot bulladelah, turn right, and keep going. and ur there...

however, bookings are essential, esp this time of year...
