I'm trying to make a test CD which has all the different types of music I listen to, some SQ tracks, tones, sound effects etc.
I need to be able to burn sections of songs rather than the entire song. Anyone know how to do this and what software is required(hopefully downloadable for free)???

Rip the song to a wav file then edit it in a wav editor (your sc probably came with one) then burn back out

You can also get apps which can split mp3s as well If that's what format you have them in

If you use nero to burn here is how to do it:
1.Ad song you want ito play list
2.Right click and go into audio properties (or similar) there is a menu where you can split tracks
3.Split track into the sections you want/need
4. delete others
5.enjoy
(I think this only works when burning it straight to a cd)

just convert the mp3 to a wav and then use SOUND RECORDER that comes with windows to cut the sections u want. then simply burn it.

damn, i thought this topic was "burning part of a TRUCK"!
so i retract my previous comments
burning part of a truck makes for much more interesting reading

i needed to split up a 600mB mp3, but i (obviously)
couldn't open it in a wav editor once it was decoded to Wav, as it was ~5 gig!

i found this out the hard way, and recorded a 4.5gig wav file (which cant be read properly) rather than recording to mp3 format
lost the entire 4 hour set

for interest's sake, Starbucks use a mp3 player.
they have one track with like 150 mp3's in it, and an index file which tells the mp3 player which "bit" each song starts at.
like: Kenny rogers - the gambler 54678
so the 54678th bit is where the song starts.
i was trying to extract a song from the big mp3... but failed

Having a big mp3 and a .cue file is not that uncommon. Alot of ppl store their music collections of albums in this way. Its good for mixed cds especially. Then if you wish to make a backup of your album on CD you burn the .cue file which will add track markers on the cd allowing you to skip though the tracks on the album
