Ive just applied to air services australia to train to be an air traffic controller, so i was just wondering if any of you guy or gals are air traffic controllers, have u ATC licence or have tryed out to become an air traffic controller.
eMitch
Nah I haven't had anything to do with ATC'ing, but I think that it would be interesting! Do you know the position on the new laws relaxing air traffic controller's responsibilities for confirming air clearance. These new laws seem to be causing a bit of havoc (with 20 'near' misses between light and commerical planes last week alone) and could possibly have negative effects on job opprotunities for people such as yourself. Just interested that's all!

Cheers...Mitch

Well apparently the ATC that was in charge of the Virgin Blue and the light aircraft that almost had a near miss has been laid off. But yeah, I've never tried, I'm studying aero eng so it's aircraft related lol.
But good luck with ur studies

Nah dude..

I can't fly personally.. So i don't think I should ever control those that can..

a tiny bit off-topic but i used to work for air services australia (as an IT person, not an ATC) and they are a pretty good company to work for! lots of really great people!

when dealing with ATCs they were ALWAYS really busy and stressed - good luck, i hope you are up to it!

Well goodluck

I remember someone telling me that it is a high stress job and most dont survive for more than 7 odd years. But that was the old days...

my dad was one of those for 25 years, so at least you know you have a long term career there if you want it
