Im planning on heading over for MAS next year, which means we have to start planning it now.
I want to take my car and my gear, i'll be buying a small 12" sub that i can throw in my boot for tunes on the way over and have my (hopefully by then pair) of 9515s without a box on the way over. I'm hoping on getting somebody in vic to take the box design i will have by then, replicate it so i can drop it in when i arrive to melbourne so i can compete without too much dramas.
What im wanting to know is:
a) How many days has does it take to drive perth to melbourne.
b) how many kms is it?
c) who would you recommend builds my box? (obviously i wont have time to do it myself)
d) what date is MAS planned for in '04?
thanks for all the help:D

taking a small child on such a trip....not a good idea.

evidently, i dont think anybody culd call the nullabor an interesting drive.
I'm primarily wanting to do it, as ive flown all over australia many many times but never driven, so although ive seen all the cities etc ive never seen the country towns or the great aussie bight or anything like that.
and also i think it'd be cool to have the freedom of having my own car in melbourne to do as i please without relying on the confusing transport system you guys have.
oh and also, im only 20, i dont think any rental company will give a 20 year old a car.
so yeah, thats why im wanting to do it
although fuel costs ($700.00 each way) are a bit prohibitve with $150.00 return flights, its going to be cheaper to hire a car, if i can find one to hire. hrmmm, 2 x 9515s as hand luggage, i think the cabin crew are going to laugh

You'll find that if you want to rent a car, it will be near impossible, or you'll have to rent some dodgy arsed car.....
The drive from memory is ~3000km's... or 4000, i can't remember.... (just checked ~3500km)
Thats a long drive....
Basically, you'll be rooted driving 3 days straight doing ~10hrs/day... you'd need at least 10hrs/day doing 110k/h, you have to allow for stops, refuels, 60 zones, etc.... so at least 3 days driving and possibly places to stay along the way, or sleeping in the car..... definately doable... but tiring

Its pretty hard core
and if you have a car that parts are hard to get, and something goes wrong.....you'll be stuck in Bum****Idahoh, or some hick town (consisting of a tavern/servo in one) for a week or more
Its not really that exciting, you rack up many km's on the car and well, flying is quicker, cheaper and less trouble in short.
My old man hitched from Melbourne to perth, try that perhaps
