Had a vandal come through the place I work last night throwing eggs on the company cars and causing property damage.
I managed to get the following crappy photo off our outdated security system:

If anyone would like to take an educated guess at the make and model of the vehicle, and possibly give some ideas on the size and type of rims it's riding on, i'd appreciate it.

I slightly stuffed the very front edge of the front bar. Theres a ghost image of that highly reflective sign right over it so yeah...

Call me crazy, but it almost looks like a skyline. Long boot.
I dont think its a magna, look at the headlights.

Could be a Verada, but definately a Magna.

lines look similar to a magna,
but, i am not sure the back-bottom corner of the rear window has a sharp edge on it like the magna does, almost looks rounded (second largest circle in fudd's post)
if we could make out where the fuel door was, then we could be more certain

I also thought it was a Magna but if you take a closer look above the rear door handle, in the photo from the security camera it looks like as if there's a small glass section. Whereas on the Magna it's just the window and that's it, no glass panel.
The front light remind me of an R33 skyline but the C-pillar looks different

Note the line of the c-piller, the line of the rear side bumper/pod.

Verada without doubt, chrome around the door glass, c pillar and headlight / grill shape give it away

You're putting up some great info guys, I really appreciate it.
If it is a Verada, and looking at the scale of things, do you reckon that the rims are only 18's?
They look pretty damn big.
mad_bison
Jun 2 2006, 10:34 PM
they look too big for 18's..
i'd have to say 19's.
get someone with 18's to park there, and take a pic of there car, so then you have something to compare them to?
mosoto
Jun 2 2006, 10:38 PM
Could possibly be 18's and look bigger due to the reflective nature and pixelation ( reflective surfaces seem larger when pixilated) but then again they do look large and its a big car.

TE or TF.. Looks like a TF more then anything..
Doesnt look like a Verada..
1) Hasn't got the lil parkers on the front of the bar
2) Longer front bar..
As Tim has just stated..
18s or 19s - More 18s i think..
SuperLows up Front
Lows on the rear
Tim has posted this on the Magna forums.. Hopefully we'll come up with something!
If you can get any other pictures or anything.. The guys on the Magna forums are always looking for modified Magna's.. If anything comes along, will be sure to let you know!

Why buy a verada and change looks to a magna? lol
Its definately not a verada. The front and rear bumpers aren't long enough. Looks like a TF or TH. Definately not a TE as the front grille mesh is not flush with the headlights. From memory the TE's were.
Looks like 19" rims.
Looks like it has a sticker on the front window on the bottom right corner? Its a 3l V6 also, unless they removed the 3.5l badge from above the side indicators. I doubt its been removed though, car looks pretty stock besides the lowering and wheels.
Stupid vandals.
Sorry to hear about the damage the caused. Hope you catch them. Keep an eye out at work for a magna with that colour. Could be Gun Metal Grey or Dark blue.

I will agree with Tim and say it's a TE or TF Magna.
Just did some lightening in photoshop. Image > apply image > screen.

pretty safe to say its a 3rd gen magna, pewter/gunmetal colour?, 18's or 19's (im thinkin 19's cos thay look pretty damn big) and its been lowered, just keep an eye out, done up magnas arnt "that" common, probably even more so in tassie

possibility of a rear spoiler too? anyone else think theres a rear spoiler? based on MitsiMonsta's 2nd pic?
either dark grey/gun metal grey, or dark green?

looks like a rear spoiler to me, thats what is also giving the boot a "taller" appearance.
the rims look like Vault Krystal's or Savanah's in MitsiMonsta pics. and would also explain the chrome look to them.

Magna my bum, you guys would make lousy detectives. Have a decent look at the rear C-Pillar, the back window is down but there is glass shining from the back portion of the door, this rules out Magna and Skyline as there side-rear windows are 1 piece, I am 100% positive it is a VR/VS Commodore, I owned one for three years and the front bar has Commodore written all over it as has the rear c-pillar and the overall shape of the car.

Jun 20 2006, 01:31 PM
hmm its definately a close call between a magna and a commo. The bum of it looks very square like a stater, the door handles look raised in the pic so that rules out a commo although they could be silver ones and look raised cos of the pic, do magna rear windows wind down funny ? end up sitting at an angle. what about the badge or light behind the front wheel ? looks like a badge in the pic but the actual magna pic only shows an indicator
either way hope they didnt do too much damage and they get whats coming to them

If thats the case then why is it shining from only where a rear quarter window would shine and not the whole rear panel. It is glass that is causing that kind of reflection, not panel or paint work. I can also clearly see the dress trim around the edges of that window, look carefully and you will see it. The Magna dress trim around the rear window has a sharp squareish corner join at the bottom rear (refer to Magna pics on page 1) the original photo clearly shows the dress trim curved eactly like a VR/VS Commodore that makes me now more than 100% certain that it is a Commodore.

Do any Commodores in that range have silver door handles though? I thought they were all colour coded.
_Anthony_
Jun 20 2006, 06:09 PM
I think that they are colour coded. VR models I think were black, but could be wrong. Are there any other shops in the area? Maybe they have some CC footage of the car and can get a number plate reading etc which would probably be more helpful. Hope you catch the bugger.

through reading this the whole time i thought nah its gotta be a magna...... then after looking at the second pic that has been photo chopped (sorry dont remember who posted it) looking at the rear spoiler like pointed out before looks very rounded and curved, i own a VR commodore and not only does that look EXACTLY the same as mine but also i thought of the look of a magna and forgive if its just my opinion but could you imagine that model magna with a rounded spoiler like that?? magna's are much sharper looking and you would think would have a more straight edged/sharper look to it

Definitely looks like a commodore. Look at the taillights, they come to the side abit, which magnas taillights dont. They r also round on the side.
Also the headlights look round too, like a commodore, and generally the whole front end.

For all the people saying it's a Commodore, how do you explain the door handles? Commodore door handles are the same colour as the door and flat with the door... Not reflective, like in the pic.

Jul 17 2006, 09:17 PM
Could well be a commo, door handles are a fairly easy to take off, seen so many with replaced/painted door handles. Also, at the back it looks like there is a small window piece, again feature of a commodore, front ligths look stretched out but thats the photo which is making it look like that. Anyone else notice the rear bumper seems to flare out and come down alot, hsv body kit? front bumper also looks modifyed, again hsv body kit. Id say 19's more than 18's, there some big wheels, maybe even 20. Photo is very unclear and minor details cant be judged nor determined.
Goodluck finding those idiots. Maybe some more footage would help determine the car

not havin much experience with many car types but i originally thought it looked a bit like a EF/L falcon mabey fairmont, the really flat boot and the top door frame looks like it has a constant curve in it like them falcons.
