My laptop is in the craps now, when it starts it gets to the end of the windows loading screen then reboots, same with safe mode.
Anyone have any ideas? I can't format it since exams are on and all my study notes are on it.
Also, any recommendations on laptops, has to be stable and awesome customer support (leaning towards dell) as it is mainly for uni but I'd like it to run some of the softer strategy games and if possible Counter Strike 1.6 (I don't like source).
Cheers.

might be a problem with the graphics driver, or ram.
IBM/Lenovo have good customer support. Is anything available throughthe uni with a support agreement?

Ive had this problem twice already it will most likely be sum pain in the a$$ virus/worm,
you could probly put your windows disc into your machine and run the upgrade/repair feature and not auctually format the drive

Even with that it won't work
Pulse-R? Whaddya mean by support system? Someone emailed me the bus law notes and I was prolly gonna fail organisation anyway so no harm no foul.
I'm going to format it and sell it over ebay and get a new one. Seems a bit unreliable to me but then I do have it running close to 24/7 so heat might be an issue. *I will tell the buyer of the issues I have had*

Don't know.
Ummm, all I remember is it is a Mitac 2yrs old. 1.6ghz some damage done to the screen (Like pressure marks). Was rebuilt with a new Hard drive, video card and Ram a few months ago caus I spilt vodka on it so I'll have to get all those specs once I get it running.
Warranty ended January this year

(2 days after my vodka accident :>)
(It was a Mitac 8050i, but different parts)
Lol, Liquidity: I am considering removing the HD and replacing it with a brand new one

I have just decided to get a laptop which can do the basics.
Play movies, use word and paint

This is now ONLY for uni and I am getting a desktop.
Any specific models people have used just for things like this?
*One with a LONG battery life. Preferrably 4hrs+

If that is a case, you want one of those "real" laptops. Bit smaller screen(14" IIRC) and quite smaller and lighter than a regular notebook.
A bloke doing my course has a Compaq thats tiny, and he gets about 4-5 hours out of his battery.
I push to get over 2 hours with mine, and it has the Pentium M processor in it too.

I have an acer 1.5ghz centrino and I get about 6 hours or so from the battery of mine. Half of the problem is making sure u dont cook the battery by overcharging it i reckon.

Yeah, my old one I was lucky to get over 2hrs, was just a bitch in long lectures.
Looking at stuff now, seems 1.66ghz is the base speed on most of them. For a bit of graphics editing I'd be looking at having a bit more ram right? After a few days with paint I really dislike it. CS all the way.

Dell are pretty good on the customer service/warranty side of things and are reasonalbly priced.
Make sure you get a 3 year warranty at least, however batteries are only warrantied for 1 year.
Did you manage to recover all the data from your old laptop?
Hope you didn't format the drive before getting the data off it

My uncle kindly formatted it for me without asking me!
I am going to keep waiting till uni starts again before I get a new one now.

Hope you've learned the value of backup. A $50 usb key could have saved you a lot of headache. What a bitch, eh.
A side note, my vote goes for dell for their simply amazing customer support.
I've used a fair few companies in my time, and with a few "clients" (I have a word-of-mouth operation where i set people up with basics. Old people. Lol (soon to get a bsb, yay!)). Nothing comes close to dell.
A side benefit (great for uni) of small laptops is not just their battery life, but their extremely quiet operation. Make SURE you get one with wi-fi and ethernet at least.

Yeah.
I have decided to get a desktop as well and get an extra hard drive for the desktop and force it to backup certain folders as soon as it connects to the network (Wirelessly).
I got in trouble in a few lectures turning my laptop on and the stupid windows music blaring out because I was too lazy to turn it off!

Bummer about your uncle formatting the drive!
As Liquidity mentioned .... a good backup is essential for anything that you can't afford to loose.
