engine whine from speakers when turn on the rear heat
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey guys i dont know if anyone else has this problem. but every time i turn on the rear window heating element my speakers in the rear shelf makes a whining sound. When i turn off the deck there is no engine whine. Would any one know what the problem is??By the way i have a sound system installed and have RCA's passing through a little gap in the rear boot on the left where there is a hole. If anyone got ideas please let meknow. Also is it possible to install 6x9 into non 6x9 holes? i have 4inchs in the rear... and i dont want to cut holes. Any ideas will help heaps thanks!
By the way i have a bmw e36 318is. 95 model

You could either buy some
6x9 boxes or make your own.
IMO Check your grounding is done well (solid connection and metal sanded back) and check your rca's haven't worn through to the body.

try running the ground from the rear heater straight back to the battery using about 12 gauge wire or make a new ground for it, the factory ground may have started to rust or something.

your right champ i am not to sure either, i don't know exactly where it is on your car or if it works how i think it works but we will give it a shot anyways

take a look at all those little heating elements, now see where a couple of them bunch together about half way up on one of the sides? Pull the trimming off on that side (might need to hunt around a bit) there should be two wires going into the glass lol idealy one is red and one is black but i doubt it. Follow the wires one should lead down the side of the car and the other should be attached to a bolt or something like that. take the bolt out and sand the bit of metal it was going through, this will take of paint or rust that is creating resisatance. Now put it back together.
don't put all your trims back on yet. test to see if it made a difference. If not graba bit of wire and attach it to the ground wire run the wire outside of your car and attach it to the negative of the battery. Once again test, if it is gone run the wire down the side ofthe car through the firewall and to the negative.
feel free to ask more questions

could also be because i past the rcas from the amp in the boot to the deck via the left hand side hole in the passener seat? there is a hole with heaps of wires. that i duno what it does. but thats the factory hole and i past the rca through there??
i rember that if power wires and rcas Dont go along. so could that be a possibility???
btw my battery is in the boot.

the jury is still out on running power wire with RCA's. I have run RCA's with power wire many times and never had a problem even with cheap areopro RCA's.
there are alot of power wires running next to your RCA's if they are all going through that hole i don't see how running a bit more power (through the demister wire) is goona make the difference that your hearing.
It might not be the ground but this is the only thing i can think of
anyone else?

ok i had a look today sinc eit was ok weather and i notice a heap load of grounds in the back seat to the left. where the rcas pass through.
i havnt started to sand nething yet. but will ge tto it. In adition i notice that every time i step on my brake, my speakers havea spark or pop sound. (i.e when the rear brake light hits up the centre One) its a small issue but im eager to get rid of that too.
do you think sanding the ground would fix that too or is that another problem? eg to with wiring?
any helps will be appreciatd!thank!

most likely it's the common ground for all the stuff in the back - lights, heater, etc.
so cleaning it up should fix everything. if not, you may need to put a new ground closer to each thing, like near the back window for the demister and stop light, and near the back of the car for the other lights.

Guys, not every single problem is because of grounding, or incorrect RCA handling.
Sounds to me like the rear heater elements power wire runs near to the rca's and/or speakerwire for the rear speakers. Did you re-run speakerwire to the rears? Try an alternate route.
Is this a new problem?
BMW's are fun to pull apart. Could take a while to re-run wiring. Bad news, eh?

some of there attachments are really tough to pull out

Alrite
tried to sand down all the grounds. nothing still the same.
i managed to get rid of the pop sound when the brake is steped on by moving the rca around the area of the amp but the whine when the heating filament is on is still there Er!
i think thats it the Rca positioning running along car power wires.. god its gonna be a pain staking job to rip out the seats and carpet and do this ... any comments please add..

Before you start ripping everything out, if you have another rca lead, you can just use that one and route it on top of your carpet, or even outside the car while testing.
