My local Auto Barn can get me packs of DNA Sound deadener for around $50 a pack, has anyone used this stuff? Is it any good? or am I better off spending $50 more to get Dynamat Xtreme Bulk Pack?
It is only going on a Ford Festiva and I am not after the best result possible just a good product that does a good job.

Well if you are spending only $50 less for the DNA stuff in total go with the Dynamat Extreme for sure. It will be well worth it just for ease of installation (will most likely stick ALOT better and be easier to work with) not to mention the quality of it.

I dont think the $$ figure is right there. $130 will get a door kit but not a box of the stuff.

bulk pack gets you 36 square feet for $255 including postage.
I am in the process of ordering 1.5 rolls of RAAMmat (about 95 square feet) and 84 square foot of ensolite (waterproof sound adsorbing foam) including freight this is going to cost $380 Australian.
I think someone on these forums have used it already, it is supposed to be much easier to work with than Dynamat and sooooo much cheaper! take away the ensolite about 80$ you get almost 3 times the amount of raamat for an extra 45 bucks!!
Rick (owner and founder or RAAMmat) is an absolute top block to deal with and has great customer service. www.raammat.com I suggest you check it out.

but have you told everyone RAAMat is half the weight of dynamat????
20Hurtz
Jun 7 2006, 12:24 PM
No i make $380 purchases with no research.
Straight from sound deadener showdown
Dynamat Net Measured Lbs ft2 (w/o release paper) 0.50
if rammat was half you would expect it to weigh 0.25 Lbs per square foot when in actual fact it is 0.38 Pounds per square foot (without rlease paper).
this means that it is only lighter than Dynamat by LESS than a Quater
and you get almost 3 times as much
hmmm i know where my money is going.

No actually, you have to wear a thick glove, as much as i'm carefull, i still had a micro cut after applying dynamat. It started to hurt when u wash your hand. RAAMAT is more maleable (spelling??) and more elastic compare to Dynamat, i dunno if they have sth to do with deadening properties (visco elastic??). But yeah, 1.5 roll of RAAMAT is a lot and weigh 5 kilo or more than Dynamat bulk back.

I feel your pain, I put 5 bulk packs into my Integra, I have so many micro-cuts it wasn't funny. Washing my hands was a very painful event.

the foil is just more flexible, this just means its easier to install with and doens't shred your fingers. I doesn't change the deading characteristics as sound dampening material like RAAMmat and Dynamat only increase the wieght on panels they are not sound adsoption agents like ensolite is.

Its all in the application. I did my front doors with Dynamat Extreme with no problems.
You also have to wait(for RAAM) ~3 weeks? Dynamat could be gotten instantly, or usually ordered in with a few days. Go with the Dynamat

Jun 8 2006, 08:56 AM
hang on so your willing to get a thrid of the amount of dynamat than you could have got of raamat just because you would have to wait a couple of weeks! Which i had money to blow like that

Yeah thats cool

I'll be buying more deadener soon (most likely a Dynamat Extreme bulk pack) because for one, i'll get it striaght away, and i dont have a credit card. I used the stuff on my doors and was quite happy with it.

I had a look at the Raammat website but in checkout it asks for a US postcode and wont accept Australian ones, how do you order to get it sent to Australia from the US and wouldnt postage make it just as expensive as Dynamat?

Email Rick if you wish to do an international order.
108sq ft of RAAMmat was $365 for me. In area, that is equal to 3 Dynamat bulk packs. By weight, it is equal to 2.28 Dynamat Bulk Packs.
From
http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/products/Net Measured Lbs ft2 (w/o release paper)
Dynamat Extreme - 0.50
RAAMmat BXT60 - 0.38
Dynamat Bulk pack - 18lb
RAAMmat I purchased - 41lb
Just buy whatever you suits your price range and requirements. I was willing to spend up to $400 on deadener and didn't have all my gear yet, so I was happy to wait a few weeks for it to arrive.
I'm going to buy Dynamat for my g/f's car just to see what it is like to work with, so I can compare the two

The thing that craps me with the dynamat extreme bulk pack,
it's still only really enough for 2 doors with a little bit left over, if you want to properly deaden.
if your REALLY stingy you might get 4 doors done.
if your really stingy, and just need some for a small job,
Flashtac from bunnings is $36 a square metre (10.7 sq feet) and works well if you apply it liberally.
I did a mates car, 1 roll per door. it works fine, sticks good, easy to use. although it is quite thin, not super heavy, but you can double up the hot spots.
You find it in the roofing section, or with the roofing adhesives. it's very similar to the rest of the tar based products. Unless you live in QLD it works perfectly fine.. but again if you have a spare 3 weeks, then get the raam mat, or shell out for the Dynamat.
The only time i see a big advantage of running dynamat extreme, is when 100% maximum performance is required, you plan to keep the vehicle for 5 or more years, and you live in a hotter climate (like QLD or NT)
The audible difference between a properly fitted cheaper product and properly fitted dynamat is basically nil.
it's just nice to have "Dynamat" in your car.. for names sake.

Thanks for all your comments guys, I ended up going with the Dynamat Extreme Bulk Pack, it arrived yesterday and hopefully this weekend I will get it all installed and my doors back to normal, been driving around with no door trims since I thought it was a waste of energy to put them back on after making the pods and before doing the deadening.
