i think what he is asking is can he mount the bolt (the part where the belt/harnes part attaches to the ground) right behind the seat instead of like 1 metre away like they normaly are...

but i could be compleatly wrong lol

This is what i'm interpreting all that as (after a couple reads added with strange looks.... lol)

You've got an FJ40 which have bucket seats and a racing harness installed. The harness is mounted in such a way that the rear of your car can not be used and you would like to know if you can move the harness so that you can make use of the rear seats. Correct me if i'm wrong.

It's possible to move it but whether it's legal or not is a different story. From memory (which is a little scratchy) to have a racing harness legally mounted in a road car it has to be at a certain angle, 10 and 45 degrees come into mind. Either 10 degrees down from the horizontal or 45 degree from the vertical, that was mentioned to me from a friend.

Best bet is to call up a reputable store which stock race harnesses and ask them. One place is Revolution Race Gear. Blokes that work there are great guys and they have some awesome gear such as a hydraulic jacks which can get a car up in 3 pumps and can be carried by a 5 year old..... only cost $600... tongue.gif

No, it is not possible. Simply because of the physics involved.

If you move your bolts close to the seat, your very likely to snap something important (your spine) in an accident. Also, in the event of an accident, if your upside down you wont be able to easily release the harness.

You MUST get these things engineered, and from memory doing so requires
a) a half roll cage, at least (which are soon going to be illegal on road cars)
b) no rear seat/passengers, which reclassify's your car usually.

If you want to carry passengers behind the drivers seat forget about using a racing harness as the shoulder straps will be in the way because they should be mounted towards the rear of the vehicle and not the floor.

Unless you are going to be doing serious circuit work there isn't really much point to using one.

If you've ever been strapped into a racing harness properly the only things you'll be able to reach are the steering wheel and gear lever .... not really practical for daily driving. tongue.gif

And as mentioned earlier there may also be issues with roadworthyness in some states.
