I had an attempt at ghost wiring an absolutely screwed earthquake amplifier, just because I could. Once I'd finished it looked fine from normal angle's but under neath looked really dodgy. It looked like all the wires could have shorted out any where. I'm not going to attempt to try and wire it in again so don't worry.
How do i go about ghost wiring an amplifier propperly?

What the hell are you talking about?

I think he's talking about rewireing the inputs/outputs of the amp, so they are not visable in an intalation. i.e. making them all come in/ou from under the amp. yes?

why can't you jsut trim the wires that are sticking out or what ever?

a common tactic is to make up a "cover plate".
Think of a shallow box the amp sits in, with one end open. All your power/speaker wires go in this end. then, you make a plate up in the form of a photo frame, like a hollow rectangle. you put this over the top, and the frame borders cover up the end of the amp, where all the wiring is.
Simple, neat, and effective. Do you need photo examples of what i mean?

Photos are always a good idea! would help explain to everyone atempting it.

Could he also be talking about 'hardwireing' the cables into the amp?

What do you mean by "It looked like all the wires could have shorted out any where"?

I dont believe u are talking about hardwiring, that is where u go thru the chassis off the amp bypassing the terminals and connect your wires straight to the circuit board.
You are talking about hiding your wiring as if it is not there so anyone looking at it thinks that it just works with no wiring yeah??
if so its a case of making a cover plate, also kicker amps are good for this as they have the big end caps which give u heaps of space to pass the wire behind

i thought he was talking about "hard wiring".
As in directly to the PCB. in order to give a floating effect without wiring been visable.

Agreed, exactly what I thought.
He is wanting to wire the amp up, with cabling being visable and without having to recess the amp behind a trim panel.

Hard wiring , Ghost wiring sounds like its the same thing. "u go thru the chassis off the amp bypassing the terminals and connect your wires straight to the circuit board."
I knew that alpine and kicker make these cover plates but I'm not really fond of either range.
"You are talking about hiding your wiring as if it is not there so anyone looking at it thinks that it just works with no wiring yeah??" - that's the jist of it.
I wasn't ever actually going to use the earthquake amp with what I had done because where the wires had gone through the backplate bare wires where way to close to the body of the amp. Also I never thought the amp would actually work.

heres my boot "ghost wired" or as i tell people, "done good so you cant see wires and $hit" im just waiting for some beauty panels to be made up but this'll do for now, oh and theres also another pic i found humerous, enjoi!

I also reckon that a bit of quality wiring on display, neatly, can look equally fantastic.
"semi-ghost" wiring.

ive always wondered how hard it would be to redirect the terminals from the underside of the amp so they are still connected to terminals, but invisible from the front. although this wouldnt work with rca's everything else would work fine

It didn't look that hard to rewire the RCA's through the bottom of the Earthquake amp. Just abit of accurate soldering.
Gordo!

Chris' ghost wiring:
Click to view attachmentAs you can see, it's no half-assed trim panel job! It's full blown hardwiring through the base of the amp. Don't thank me for the picture, just throw money.
