hey guys, im new to these forums (today new!) but sort of acustomed to stereos etc.

i recently bought a 1988 MZ21 soarer and have realised that front speaker locations and options are quite limited. the doorsare fitted with (approx) 4" speakers and the rear with boxed components (from the factory).

what im thinking is getting a good quality set of 4-5" 2-way components for the front in the stock locations, and somehow finding an area to put a pair of mid-bass drivers, probably 6-8".

rear fill and sub woofers are all easily done so there is no issue there.

so if anyone has had experience with stereos in these cars please let me know!! or alternatively if my idea sounds crap please let me know too tongue.gif

cheers

haven't worked on a MZ20 yet for speakers - is it a limited? if so the radio is going to be a fun swap. (unit int he back is the TV/radio/monitoring system.)
take a pick of of the door with panel off and I'll make a few suggestions.

ill take the trims off tomorrow hopefully and get some pics up..

yeah it is the limited so it has the TV and the big control unit in the boot. if im ditching the whole screen does that mean that unit can come out of the boot too? because its taking up valuable space wink.gif

look closely as that area is not a DIN hole or anywhere near it. yes tehe whole lot can com out. be prepeared to lose a few things on the dash though.

from memory it has a bit of the climate control in it. the vehicle monitoring system is in there also.
would be easier to remote mount a unit in it.

ok yeah it may very well have some of the AC in the screen.. i was also thinking it might be easier to have a new CD player mounted in the glovebox or something. but that boot mounted unit is still a massive space restriction for me!!

ok after a long week at work im finally on weekend!!! (tuesday-wednesday = crap house weekend but its time off) but i havnt had a chance to get pictures of the trims off, or take the trims off and have a look myself for that matter.

ive been doing some research and in my year model of car the large unit in the boot controls only what is linked to the EMV screen, which isnt the AC! so thats coming out as soon as i buy my new gear..

just thought id let you know that i havnt forgotten and still want peoples input once i get those pics up!!

cheers

Good to see a fellow toymodder here! :-)

Not sure if you've since solved the speaker problem, but there's a pretty good outline of a solution in the soarer post on toymods: http://www.toymods.net/forums/showpost.php...;postcount=1216
