Does anyone know if the audio places have 'Second Skin' sound proofing products ...

I read a comprehensive comparison review on sound proofing products and Second Skin came out on top ... even better than Dynamat Xtreme. Apart from these 2 , many of the other sheet products are to be avoided because they have ashfalt as opposed to Butyl ... ashfelt which has much lower heat resistence and therefore starts to smell after a few years!! Whereas Butyl is much higher heat resistent .. higher quality product which is why D.Xtreme is much more expensive. nea.gif

Second Skin is merely cheaper by weight than d.extreme. Extreme still comes out on top in actual resonance damping.

If quality is your most important requirement, Second Skin Damplifier or Damplifier Pro are the obvious choices. Dynamat Xtreme is close, but being more expensive and not as good isn't a winning combination.

scources? I am very sure that wieght is the factor here (besides how well it is installed)?

Different products have different dampening properties, it's not solely based on weight.

I also think testimonials from the manufacturer's website may be slightly biased tongue.gif Reputable people they have quotes from though.

I'd be interested in seeing what this product is like...

Dynamat Extreme hasn't got its reputation from nowhere. I'd have to hear an unbiased review from someone who knows their stuff before I really made the switch.

dynamat is no doubt good and its one of the easiest accessible but there are better/ more cost effective options eg raammat

its a matter of how motivated u are to find better value

How much research have you done? Dynamat has an excellent reputation as it has been the superior product for years... But recently alot of other brands have come into the market. We don't see any of these products in Australia, so you do not hear about them. On the US forums, where the products are available, you'll see alot of different opinions on different products. From those threads i've realised that Dynamat may not be the best product out there anymore.

That review on SDShowdown seemed pretty unbiased to me... Stated all physical facts and explained how the physical properties affect the effectiveness of the product. Dynamat still came out near the top, just not on the top.

Scottie Johnson.

Eric Coulter.

Some of the loudest and more respected competitors in SPL.

Both have a wealth of knowledge and I doubt they would back a product and put their reputations on the line with out testing it against other brands to ensure it was the best for their application.

Bobby Bellair, a guy who it would seems (from working with 110 different deadeners) works with this type of product for a living, so I'd say he knows what he is on about....

For the last time stone, you cant use that website as a reference for SQ factor as they simply did not do a single test relating to damping effectiveness.

Where did I say anything about sound quality? I said that it states the physical specs and explains how those properties affects how the SD works.

So where can we buy this stuff?

Not available in Oz (as far as I know) but I have heard that it will be coming into the country soon.
