hey guys been offered a set of dynaudio MW150 drivers and MD100 tweeters.

i will run custom passives with these but was just wondering how they would perform compared to say focal k2p or say a boston pro 6.5??

any help, opinions appreciated.

thanks

mike

the dyns are very laid back, very easy to listen too,

the k2p's are a bit more in your face, and a little bit more detailed...
mikesmith
do the dyns still hit hard in the midbass bear in mind that the woofer is 5.75?.

how much power can u run through them??
Shreknos
the dyns do have a nice mid bass presence, but i thought the k2ps were better... install plays a big part too...

i would give them upto 200 rms for the woofers, and 150 rms for the tweeters... though about 50rms should be fine each... the more the merrier, just be carefull with gains and volume knob...

ul love the dyns, everyone does
mikesmith
i have 2 audison srx2's to power them.

should i run active or passive?

bear in mind that i am getting no crossovers with the speakers.

what the next size up dyn and is it worth looking at a 3 way setup???
Shreknos
the 3 ways obviously sound much better, ud just have to get the md140/2 midrange, but i would suggest passive first till u learn the speakers as the tweeters have a special protection circuit and arent designed to be played too loud for long ammounts of time...

or, just be carefull....

The 3 ways dont necessarily sound better. Id go with well installed 2 ways first.

I would get the next size up woofer though, the MW160 (if not the MW170). Midbass is smooth yet powerful Ive found.

Dont worry too much about the tweeter protection, Ive never run into trouble with it and mine plays very loud.

Go active if you can, especially if you arent getting the xovers. 180-200Wrms for the mids and 50-70Wrms for the tweeters would be perfect.

Ive got my 240GTs running passive with 180Wrms, but I know of people who have put much more into them without a hassle.

thanks caydin.

i am looking at getting these and custom passives or looking at the phass splits in the for sale section.

if i get the dyns then i will look 3 way.

the phass i will just leave them as is.

hard descions

how much are the mw160's?

would i be better off going for the bigger ones and going 3 ways?? as i can only buy these in a set.
mikesmith
ouch they are not cheap are they.

i would be better off buying a new set of the components instead.

You get what you pay for with these puppies!!

Id go the MW160's myself (well, I did!), but the 150's are just as good. Custom passive's are definetly the way to go with them, though that would be quite an outlay. Keeping in mind, the passives would need to be specifically designed for these drivers to better the dyn stocks. If you cant afford to put at least 1k on a passive, just go active.

Dont really bother with the 3-ways until you know exactly what you are doing. Its expensive, a massive hassle, and harder to install. 2-ways done properly can sound almost as good.

And those prices are rrp, not street prices. You should easily be able to get them brand new for cheaper. Especially on the FS Section (Mine were brand new, 800 bucks. 2-weeks later, a system 360 went for 650!!)

can i go active off my 2 audison srx2's effectivly???

will the mw150's be alrite or should i look bigger?

had a look in the F.S forums and there was none there that are recent and not sold.

the rrp on the mw160's and 170's were $500. wont be able to get much cheaper than that i would have thought.

As ~thematt~ said, if you can find some second hand, go for it. I got my 240GTs for $400 smile.gif

2x SRx 2 should be fine. Will still play nice and loud, and maybe just upgrade the mid amp later on if you find it yourself wanting more.

I would go with those, run off the srx's it should be a decent setup.

With custom passives (make sure they have decent power handling) bridge one amp per side. Should rock your world.

You may find the lower midbass frequencies lacking a bit, I did even with MW160's. But you can always add a 8" driver later on and run semi active. 8's can be put in kicks, doors, under seats. Many options.

My advice, give em a go, they will give you a very nice sounding top end to build the rest of the system from.
mikesmith
this setup would be going into a ute. with a 12 hertz mille 3000. so the sub should be able to handle most of the lower range would it not??

being in the cab not in the boot would make a difference.

i like my fronts to be pretty mid bass hit hard aggressive.

i have 2 srx2's was going to bridge to run front splits.
