Hey,

I own a TE Magna which is an automatic. I was turning out of a carpark tonight, accellerating with medium heavyness when the whole front of the car started to jump. It made a big bang klunk noise and then wouldn't go anywhere. I pulled over, stopped the car and then attempted to place the gearstick into the park position, when I did this it made all kinds of klunking noises. A few minutes later I started the car again just to see if anything had changed, While in park it was fine but when I moved the gear lever into drive it made wierd noises. I then put my foot down on the accelerator slowly, the car just revved like the gearbox wasn't even there. I then turned off the ignition. A few minutes later I had a look under the car to see if I had any leaks, there was a huge pile of transmission oil on the groung underneath the gearbox. It looked as though it had just fallen out not just dripped. The RAA had no idea what had happened so I just got it towed back to my place. If the car is in park and you start the engine, its fine, but as soon as you move the gear stick lever it makes all sorts of wierd noises.

If anyone has any idea what could have happened I would greatly appreciate their help.

Regards,
Daniel

Sounds like what my friend did to his TM, only his was a manual.

Did quite a few hard launches with a not so standard engine and spat the diff centre out of the gearbox. The size if the hole was about a family block of chocolate in size, with a whole bunch of cracks and stuff everywhere else. Required a whole new gearbox.

When this happened to our ford territory, it was a result of structural failure of a driveshaft. Factory fault. fixed under warranty.

Albeit, the driveshaft completely demolished the auto trans, and somehow rooted the centre diff too. Whole new drivetrain. In 3 days.

Welcome to the joys of owning a Magna.. this, along with the incessant oil leaks and valve trains problems is why I sold mine for a Statesman.
enzo
yeh.........my family too has experienced the joys of the magna lol

we had about 2 or 3 of the older ones (talkin old old...not like ur TE)

and they soon disappeared

the autos......3spd.......seemed to have about seven gears....and would happily jump between them when they liked

though none of them completely ATE themselves.......they certainly weren't healthy

anyway...best o luck sortin out ur troubles

Although everytime the Magna did something stupid it was alot less scary than now, wondering "Hrmmm, I wonder which body part Audi wants to fix this"
Benjy
daniel, if your goin to pay heaps to fix it why not sell it?

I got a quote of $1250 for all the parts to do a manual conversion. Then one of my mates from the Australian Magna CLub who recently did the conversion on his own car is going to help me do the installation. So $1250 isn't that much considering im fixing the car and doing the conversion.

Sounds good

Jesus, that isnt much at all. Gearbox, flywheel, cabling/pedals. hope it works out for you.

Got any plans to mod the car in future? now would be a good time to put in a nicer clutch etc while the box is out.

yeah
go all out
