Full Version: Rainbow Amps?

Noticed these on their website. Does anyone know if they are available at all in Australia, and what the pricing is like? I noticed a thread a while ago (2003?) that they weren't going to bring them in but Rainbow seems to have gotten far more popular since then.

Cheers good.gif
Redlined
according to the distributor the rainbow amps are going through c-tick approval before they release them out to the public

Very good, they are certainly sexy looking beasts with nice stats:
HBD
The stats arent that great, but theyre decent. You do realise they dont have filters (the mono does, thats it) so you'll need to buy their pre-amp aswell right?

Its not such of an issue.

Most headunits (including yours) have built-in HPF and LPF, so not as big a feature it was a decade ago, so you won't need an external crossover.
HBD
Yeah I know, but some people like their amps to do all the work. Merely pointing out that they're the type of product where you need to know what you want and need tongue.gif

and a decade or so ago all the good amps diddent have xovers smile.gif

i wouldent go buying the rainbows on looks alone.. dont really do it for me that way.
wonder how they perform?

Amp w/o Xover rocks biggrin.gif
Kev
^ Agreed. Straight power amps ftw. At the very least you can reason that the amp must be cheaper or better quality since money isnt being spent on the crossover.
tis_paul
Lol nah I doubt I'll actually be getting them, I'm sure they'll be quite expensive for one. Just outta curiousity really
HBD
They won't be cheap thats for sure. Expect 1K for the four channel I'd imagine.
ultim8DTM5
Actually, I imagine it will be about $10,000.00...but then again, I don't know and I'm just pulling figures from thin air, thats for sure
APS
Are you sure your not imagining your hourly lawyers rate Pete smile.gif.

Cos if thats the case u r dreaming smile.gif.

Well Pete I actually wasn't pulling figures out of the air, I was given that estimate by someone who's in a position to have a reasonably good idea how much they're going to cost. But it's ok, snide and sarcastic remarks are the new black.

Nor do Audison's very expensive VRX amplifiers, but it doesn't make them any lower in quality smile.gif

I actually like the seperate preamp, as you can mount it wherever is convienient for you.

The look of the amps (monoblock excepted) doesn't do anything for me - they look a little too "Pretty boy" for me.

I prefer the solid, chunky "I mean business" look taken on by the likes of ARC Audio, Zapco, Audison (VRx) and the like.

However, as far as performance goes, nothing I've heard from Rainbow has yet dissapointed me, and I have high expectations of these amps. I can not imagine a company of as high quality as Rainbow would release anything that could potentially go against their success. My initial guess is that they would sound spectacular.
HBD
I never said they wouldn't sound good, I said the specs weren't great. Shiny used an audison vrx to win SQ comps so clearly specs are'nt everything. But I'm not telling you anything knew, everyone knows specs aren't the be-all and end-all.
So far in this thread people seem to have made assumptions about what I am saying, or what I mean. If you're looking for subtext look elsewhere, I mean what I say and say what I mean. If I thought they would sound like bum I'd come straight out and say it. If you want to fill in blanks so to speak here's one for you, _ a t - m _.
Would you like to buy a vowel?

Considering I spoke with the only person in the only position to actually know, your information is rather incorrect.
HBD
This is a complete and utter waste of time, it's car audio for christs sake. I spoke to someone we both know who told me he estimated 1K for the four channel however there was nothing in concrete yet. If you don't believe me I really couldn't care less. I have no reason to lie. I'm not going to waste a second more of my time on arguing over petty crap that matters for naught in the grand scheme of things.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Blake, take it easy. I never said you were lying, just that the information you had was incorrect.

is it seasoned?

IMO, they LOOK like good, but sq isn't dictated by specs... let the listening do the testing. smile.gif

Anyone who has been on CAA for more then a couple of months laugh.gif

Seems pretty much a given that 1/4 of threads will start an argument end eventually lead to closure sad.gif

Seriously though boys (and gals!), lets play nice shall we

We don't want another constructive thread closed!
