Can people please post what kind of internet connection they are running on?
1. Broadband ADSL
2. Broadband Cable
3. Broadband Sat
4. Dial-Up
5. Other (if other, please state the connection)
Please reply with only your selection! This survey is to gather information for flash animations on if a pre-loader should exist or not. This pre-loader all depends on the ratio between Dial-Up user's and Broadband user's.

Haha, y do u need 2 options for cable/adsl, I dont think flash intro would struggle with either
Anyway im on dialup, I dont mind flash intro's as long as they are kept under 500kb'ish, thou the current flash intro needs a better pre-loader IMHO. And y does every site have a Alpine deck in the flash intro

reason I asked both, is, there are connection differences with adsl. Not quite as fast as cable. And secondly, it is good to know in future what people use mostly.

I'm on adsl. but I don't like loading flash as its a waste of bandwidth and a waste of time. If I go to a site that makes me load flash then I just close down my browser and dont return to that site. Granted some flash is helpful, but I believe that flash isnt necesary and you can use other means to make a site practical.
I personaly feel that a person hosting a site should have the decency to offer a non-flash version of there site. a) I dont want to have to wait for a page to load some crappy flash. b)some people have to pay per mb they download.
so to some up, flash costs me money and takes up my time.
end of rant.
Have a nice day

Maybe just a "skip intro" link on the actual page and not the flash will help out some of our dial-up CAA members?

There is always a skip area, just click on "HTML Version" it takes you to the original page menu, where caraudioaustralia banches off into the CAA website and the ACAD.

To get adsl you have to be within a certain distance of a telephone exhange (I think its 3km). It has to do with degregation of signal. so dsl often inst possible. Cable is out of the question because most suburbs dont alow cable roll out.

Blitz, best to check
http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/ as they are usually upto date with ADSL/Cable offered aust wide, as some states pay different prices for the service. Plus the forums are great to see which are the best for service and price.

I'm on ISDN 128kbps at home.
Believe it or not, its actually a pretty good option for the unfortunate majority of us who cannot get adsl or cable. Telstra have a capped data charges option which works well (16.50 for unlimited data calls).

Blitz, i'm going through internode using a business plan, so its somewhat expensive. I know you are south of the city, like myself so it might be worth investigating your chances of getting adsl.
blownvt, ISDN is a good option if you cant get dsl or cable. I used to have a 128k isdn link, which was far better and cheaper than having a dual 56k modem setup.
