Hi guys,

I am currently umming and ahhing over what speakers to put into the Rex. As the topics says, i have an my05 wrx. These are the options:

My current DLS Ultimate Pros. I have a 3 way set with a blown crossover, i only want a two way set though so it fits in the doors without having to build pods. I would have to redesign a new crossover and i have no idea where the best crossover frequencies are. Also if i was to use my amp to make them active i would have no subsonic filter on them as i want it to be around 60hz {my head unit only allows 80hz}. Mounting depth of 65mm.

Focal 165kps (i think i prefer these to the K2p as i dont like the directionality of the phase plug - although i am basing this off the old models as i havent heard the new ones. They also have a smaller mounting depth). Mounting depth of 72mm.

Hertz HSK165 (i do like the midrange of the Hertz, even if the tweeter leaves a bit to be desired - this is a nice cheap option). Mounting depth of 67mm.

My Question is, will all the woofers here (particularly the focal as its the largest) fit into the doors (only requiring a spacer) as i dont want to have to build pods as i want to keep it stock looking.

The spacer i am thinking of building would involve a 6mm MDF panel cut to the shape of the existing speaker mount(so that i can use the existing screw holes), and then an standard 16mm MDF circular spacer stuck to this. Will this fit under the trims? Will it allow me to mount my speakers?

Sorry about the length of the post but i thought i would try and get all the details across.

Cheers in advance

You'd might have more luck on a WRX specific forum. Try:

I had an MY99 and had to sell my HSK-165s as they were too deep for the Subbies doors, the MY05 may be different but I doubt it. I picked up some 2nd hand Kenwood Dual Mags for $100 off ebay and they sound alot nicer than the Hertz ever did and they have a very shallow mounting depth. There are options out there just have to search and listen. Make sure you sound deaden the Subbies doors, they are a tad bit tinny causing loss of your mid bass.

Thats because they all use Focal V slims. I know of one guy that got some Dyn 240GT's to fit behind the factory trims in an MY00. Build outs are just easier and sound better in the long run...
