ok then currently i have an IBM cokmputer, and its shyte.....800mHz processor, 128mb ram...right now, these are the only things i wanna update.....
but a mate has told me that only IBM branded mo'bo's and processors will go into ibm computers......is this correct??
if so, what can i expect to pay for something around 2.8-3gHz????
if it isnt, what are some brands ppl can recomend me to???
cheers

IBM dont manufacture processors.
You can't fit a 2.8GHz or 3GHz processor.
It's almost pointless to update your computer. It's too old. You will see performance benefits from upgrading the ram. Check out ebay once you know exactly what type you need.

yeah, RAM and maybe hard disk and graphics will help, but 800 is just too slow these days - there have been 2 or 3 major changes to technology since that machine was made, and it's not backward compatible, except for a few bits and pieces.
even if you increase the RAM, Hard disk, graphics, etc.. it will still obly be 800MHz - about 1/3 what you really need for good performance.
also reliability will start to become an issue in the near future, and IBM brnaded stuff is very expensive to repair - like mobo, power supply will be 5 times an OEM version, but th eOEM will not suit the IBM case.
