ok i was reading the LED tute and got told off for asking a similar question in there

i have always been planning on doing some sort of led setup and i was thinking about some kind or setup like shining them into the side of perspex

i would like to know/see some examples of what is possible with the combination of LED's / perspex

a few of my ideas:
- a parcel shelf....carpeted or similar on the top so it only lights up underneath...maybe with a cutout for a design ie toyota logo, etc that shines up into the cabin
- cutout some of the glove box and do a similar thing.. ie toyota in writing

questions:
- how do i get a design to show up in the perspex? sanding the part that i dont want to show up as much to show a logo/writing....
- will someone with moderate ability be able to do what i want with perspex, ie cut and drill it to suit my needs
- is it even possible to do what i want ie the LED will be strong enough to light up the parcel shelf and change its colour to red for example
- am i kidding myself and should i go with mdf and off the shelf neons (i hope it doesnt come to that)

cheers

look at the install of Shiny Car - his Audison logo is LEDs in the side of machined perspex.

I wasnt telling you off mate ;P

Anyway, you can acid-etch a logo into the perspex. (make a stencil, brush on acid, rinse repeat.
the edges of the etched logo will scatter light being fired in by leds on the side. Looks fantastic.

Leds sure can do you desired effect. If you want to get tricky, you can build a kit that will change to any colour you want tongue.gif

IF you want to get really tricky, you can buy kits that will cycle colours to music, etc.

Fire dd_phil a PM (could be DD phil, no underline)...he's got an awesome install image of a set of bostons door-mounted with an absolutely phat perspex led ring.

On OCAU.com.au their is a guy who is a master of Perspex look in the work log section of the modding and electronics ( sorry mods if i have breached a proticol by directing him to another forum) have a look at his tutorials he shows how to do what you are after by sanding the perspex with 1200 grit sand paper to get the effect. he has done a few tutorials with photos in his work logs for people to follow.

This guy does with purspex that i can not even imagine doing i will find his name for you in a sec. his is named Defyant just search for his work logs and spend hours learning from a master. hope this gives you some ideas to play with.
