hey caa,
Im just interested if any members have got these off the shelf HID conversion kits (which aren't cheap like $300-400 worth) and do they really work and whats the benefits?
at the moment Ive got Blue parkers, (autotechinkia) Diamond vision driving lights, and diamond vision high beams (autotechinkia) and they seem to do a good job they arent as blue as the phillips ones but very faint blue tinge.
would it be worth me getting the HID conversion kit, and what colour is the light or can ya change the colour??
cheers
P.S
sorry everyone as i should of researched this topic before i posted, could the moderators please delete this topic thank you....... sorry for the trouble

All your questions can be answered here:
http://www.hidplanet.com/The globes come in different temperature ratings which determines the colour. 4100k or 4200k is what is stock in Beemers and other cars that have them as OEM, but your aftermarket "kit" won't look anything like those cars. It will just look like massively bright lights (annoying if used in stock reflectors) and will vary in colour depending on what temperature you get.

nemesis has used a kit in his VX, which he sold recently, you should be able to see pics in the "Other" for sale section.
I'm half way through mounting projectors into Monaro headlight housings for my VT. Had to use Monaro housings because they have a clear lense. Sanding or sandblasting the stock bezzeled)don't think that's the right word) was going to be too difficult, supposedly.

yep as above
my mate is getting a set for his VS in the coming weeks (once he finshes off the engine work), i can let you know how they go in there once its up and running again. in my VX they were fantastic, no comparison for halogen lights at all - you can quote me here, i'll never have non-HID lights again in any car i own
can't comment on how the new set works (ive got monaro/projector style 'euro' headlights now with H1 globes), and as they're more projector styled (well alot more than what i had with the stock lights) i'm expecting them to be 10x better again...now i just need to make the car run to test them lol

is it worth getting HID's u mean?
depends on ur car and headlights..some older cars the headlights are really poor (i know s13's etc. for example).
living in the country side as well would be great.
I got em only cos i wanted white bulbs..spent $50 on cheap normal ones, blew...i thought screw it, bought a 2nd hand set of HID's for $300...phillips diamond vision and stuff costs a crap load..autobarn want like 100+ for the good ones... i just thought to shell out.

Just be carefull what colour temp you go for, the higher (bluer) the temp the less light output you actually get.
BMW use a slightly different type of lamp, Xenon gas, thats what gives the blue/purple at you look into the lamps but the light outpur it actually very white...

I'm pretty sure thats a popular misconception XHELL.
I'm almost certain the blue tinge is a result of light refraction around the edges of the projecter's cutoff "mask" they use..
Bmw, i think, use a razor sharp edged cutoff mask, and light diffracting around the edges of it causes the blue tinge.

What ever it is, there's a good reason why the BMW lamps are in the thousands to replace..
Personally, the cheaper blue coloured head lights are tacky, and dangerous..

BMW HID globes (standard globe for most HID applications) are about $100 each from the US, HID xenon globes aren't that expensive and they last the life of the car

Yup, the thousands are the whole headlight. You must be aware that factory xenon light system has auto levelling and jet wash, they are neccesary to make HID/xenon legal.

Diamond Vision globes won't give u glare, it actually has considerable less output from standard halogen. The reason the higher temp for Xenon has less output are due to our eyes. Our eyes perceive white light close to 4300K as the best light for sight, it is close to daytime light. Actually, Philips bulb ain't that bad, i use it for number of years.
