Hi guys

I have a Ford Maverick/Nissan Patrol 88 Model.

While i was on the beach both my back shocks (Stock) started leaking oil so it's time to buy some new ones not bad for 18 years

I have a question this car does 99% of the time on the road so road use would be a must. Could someone maybe suggest a shock for my needs as i tow a boat but not all the time. so mainly what i need is a good stable shock that will corner nicely but won't cost a arm and a leg. The car is fairly low so i don't need a shock with heaps of travel. I'm on a budget so i don't want to spend alot more then then the ones below.

I have priced a few shocks just not sure which ones to go with.
Monroe Gas Magnum TDT (2 Shocks for $254)
Gabriel "Ultra Shock ($90 ea)
Gabriel Blue Ryder ($99.50 ea)

Should i replace all 4 at the same time or just the back 2 as there the worst out of them all.

Cheers Guys.

Rick.

well i can't comment on Gabriel gear, but monroe certainly is about the best of the cheap stuff around. if you can afford it though, get some good gear

actually if this had have come up ~2 months ago i would have a set of Koni DD's you could have had cheap-cheap, ah well shouldn't have had that clean-out nea.gif but anyway, we had Koni reds (hydraulic) in the patrol (LWB) and they were awesome on the road and just as good off road. in the maverick (SWB) we had the DD Koni's after changing from gas red's, the hydraulics were a mile ahead on the road and off road not much difference to be honest. the maverick also had a trial of the (then-new) Pedders 4wd gear, they lasted about a week before they were ripped out and kindly returned to the rep...shall we say, elegantly laugh.gif
one thing i'll suggest, if you decide to fit long travel shocks, do both ends smile.gif duh, ok but in the front make sure you get good advice and a competent shop, as the stock brake hoses aren't long enough and you'll need a custom set made up dirol.gif

Well, sounds like you just need a new set of stock shocks.
Cheapest option would be to try and find a set of the Gu Patrol shocks as people ditch these after upgrading their suspension, sorry but i've already thrown them out.

Otherwise, where abouts are you located as i know someone who i got my parts from who should be able to source you EFS shocks for cheap.

Pm me you location and ill see if i can help you out.

Cheers guys with all your help i think i'll wait a couple of weeks and buy shocks for all round the car and try go with Monroe as like you said there one of the best around tongue.gif

When i was at the shop yesterday i had a good look at those Gabriel "Ultra" shocks and there much bigger then my old ones there very thick as the ones i have now are very thin. Also they were hard as hell to push down and but then they came up ok not at a great rate of knots. My old shocks in the front are ok not as bad i find most of the swaying is comming from the back so maybe becuase i had one of the shocks out of the back of my car omg there like a pongo pole laugh.gif
They can be bounced up and down as much as you want there is nothing left of them by the feel.

Cheers again guys. clapping.gif clapping.gif
