g'day. Got two SATA drives in mirrored RAID here.

Had two dvd drives plugged in.

Now, i've got two IDE hard drives. One with an OS on it, one just data.

I plugged on into the primary ide channel, and it tried to boot off that ide drive (i cancelled).
Plug into the secondary channel, RAID array booted, didnt see the drive.

Plug the "data only" drive into primary IDE, doesnt start up at all....didnt try secondary.

Any way to run the IDE drive, while booting off the SATA raid array?
Pulse-R
yeah, I do it - set the bios to boot SCSI, CDROM,HDD in that order

but then again, if I have the SATA connected, it takes precedence over the IDE, so only the SATA boots with both in.

otherwise, set the drives to slave, and have the CD/DVD as master.

you could load the IDE drive up on another machine's secondary, then set the partition 'active' to off

Ensure your jumpers on the back of the data drive are set to slave and the drive is on the slave IDE connector on the ribbon cable.
Check your BIOS settings and ensure your not set to RAID only for the IDE setup.
Then check the IDE drive is being recognised in the BIOS.
If all is ok there then it's just a matter of getting windows to see the drive. Right click on My Computer - Manage - Disk Management.
In there should be your drive waiting to be activated hopefully.
Pulse-R
would windows see the drive, even if the Bios doesn't?
I know Netware does, but that's a freak OS.

If it's on an IDE connector then No, BIOS has to see it b4 windows can if I remember correctly.
I could be wrong, but I've not had success with it b4

Yeah I know, it's more for the mods to remove it considering I've never been warned & no one else seems to have it sad.gif

lol everybody has it, you just cant see it, and i cant see anybody elses...its just a reminder....if its on zero, then you shouldnt have a problem....

I'm on 40%.
I'm about to try the IDE drive trick. Seeya soonish. Hopefully.
Pulse-R
I've got 20% - apparently for saying something unnecessarily.
trism
im on 40%......both for unnecesary speaking....good luck liquidity

on a quick hi-jack,
my comp is infected with a trojan, and it wont let me format the comp...... go figure. whati want to do is install the os on another HDD, then use it as a master, and the current as a slave, and install the OS that way....

is it possible, and if so, how would i go about it??
Pulse-R
pull the drive out, put in a new one, boot from the XP CDROM to install, then install antivirus, then connect the old drive on the secondary IDE - done

alternatively, get a 'bootable' anti virus CD - that should be able to clear up the virus without having to boot from the hard disk.
trism
ok, cool thanks

bit confused. the mb has intel matrix raid on it. 4 SATA ports.

2 are being used

the dvd's were on IDE master/slave. If i plug a drive into slave, on slave pin jumpers (on the hd) it's not found.

I think i have to change something in the RAID bios...its currently set to AHCI, not sure what it should be?

anyone know any tech-head forums i can ask this on?

overclockers.com, or .net or whatever it is.....just do a google search for overclockers...you will get to it

ah yes OCAU. The guys you see running 1600x1280, at 16x AA and 4x Anisotropic, off a celeron with integrated graphics tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif
mosoto
Oi wots wrong with that? rolleyes.gif
Yes in the BIOS under ....... oh hang on I'll reboot and have a look

Ok assuming your running award BIOS there should be an item "Integrated Peripherals"
Within here is "Onchip IDE device" then "Onchip Serial ATA"
Is this set to Enhanced or anything other than SATA only?
