I've got the carputer running like a dream now, so I'm playing with all of the little things - currently recording all of the WAP's (Wireless Access Points) around Gladstone and storing their locations on Google Earth.

Looks a little like this -

Basically, if I need to connect to the internet while driving around, I know the spots where I can do it (the green spots). I can even maintain constant internet connection while driving if there are enough WAP's on my route. You can see the path I took around town to find them. I have yet to do everywhere, but that will come eventually.

Yeah, 'free' internet when I'm in the car

Now you need to make the map move around a cursor that is centered on your location in the middle of the screen, like when they are tracking someone in the movies.

That would be cool.

It does. There is a cursor in the middle of the screen, and the map moves as I am driving. If I turn a corner, the map rotates. I only posted the screenshot of all of Gladstone to demonstrate the WAP logging feature.

If I slow down it zooms in and pans up, and as I get faster it zooms out and pans down - looks pretty good when driving, but like I said before, it just tracks where you have been, doesn't tell you where to go.

I'll take some more screenshots.

Yeah, I use a plug-in called 'Goops', it creates a network connection in Google Earth which updates every second.

Just like music
So onboard PC GPS receives a WAP connection? I don't understand how you are getting connected other than that... or mobile plugged in :S

I know my city in and out, so I never bothered with a GPS i never get lost, ever.
Marc
Nah he's using a wireless connection in conjunction with his GPS antenna.
