A question from another member here prompted me to have a flick through the Termpro rules and I noticed this, which I guess I just skipped over the last few times i've been there:

The idea was to have my carputer integrated into the glovebox with a touch-screen mounted in the OEM headunit location.

Is this still legal in a street class?

Just making sure before I go ahead and install everything, it would suck to get disqualified for something so trivial tongue.gif

I'd say no, as the glove box isn't the OEM location for the source unit.
Pulse-R
how do the people with pedestal-mounted H/U's get by?
Michae1
They run Street Max or higher where Podiums are allowed.
~Sparkles~
carputers arent allowed unless playing off the original media... or is that just in finals?
Shieldsy
it's at any event but some single pointers you could be let through.

Yeah, i'm taking about plain Street A.

I forgot to mention, my DVD-ROM drive will also be in the dash with the screen, from which the media will be played.

Reading through the rules, external processors etc. are allowed to go wherever you want. Although a carputer isn't the same thing, I can't see why it can't be under the same classification.

And it doesn't say specifically (unless i've missed something) that the headunit has to be in the OEM location, just "completely into the dash".

I'll make it fit in the dash if I have to, but it's gunna be bloody hard tongue.gif

The source unit must be a 12V auto sound device.. a carputer isnt a 12V autosound device, its a computer running on 12V that happens to play sounds. The CD/DVD ROM isnt a 12V autosound unit either.
You cant run iPod's for dB Drag's either.
Last time I checked, the source unit must be installed in the OEM dash location.. I've never seen a headunit from the factory installed in a glovebox.

But, shoot Angelo and E-mail: info@dbdragracing.com.au and ask him for confirmation.

Also, Podium headunits are allowed in StreetMAX, SuperStreet & Extreme classes.. not Street classes.

Thanks, i'll do that.
I'm pretty sure I know the answer though sad.gif

Heh, I was so fixated on the other rules I totally forgot to consider the whole carputer thing. Seemed like such a good idea at the time tongue.gif

I guess i'll be buying a headunit then.

At least it doesn't have to be anything special.

well if you look at it merely from the term "external processor", thats exactly what a CarPC is. An external processor with the storage capability of a disc changer. What's stopping you having the CDROM up front with the screen?. Sounds to me like the rules need to be a little more accomodating of the current trends.
