Ok guys, girls and questionables, in light of the thread regarding exposure of dB Drag Racing I figure rather than simply reacting and doing nothing, lets get PRO ACTIVE in creating awareness of dB Drag Racing in Australia, then we might get more spectators who will turn into competitors.
If you have an ideas that may be feasible then post away.
Remembering........alot of ideas WILL require some kind of financial layout to get the ball rolling, be it in the form of paying for paper and ink for printing out flyers or paying to advertise in various types of media, no one person should have to foot the bill, I am sure that with a bit of team work and smart organising we can acheive the desired result.
Also, can we get the opinions of Competitors, spectators and even organisers as to what they like, don't like, would like to see, wouldn't like to see at events.
Post away people, remember........no idea can be ruled out if we don't know about it, so big or small, lets hear it.

most their customers will be there
just a thought

leave the main cities
not all of us have the time or money to drive 4 hours to compete and then back again
even if it spread out a lil more,
we had one here in Bundaberg, and there was quiet a few competors, i think in stb alone there was 12-15.
that was it no more word of it or so,
but spread the wings i reckon

Nothing beats word of mouth. After browsing this site myself and keeping an eye out for future events I told a couple of my mates and now they have both entered dB drag events and have done well!
Tell your mates to come and bring there car along to the next event..

working in a servo i get a lot of done up cars come through, and if i hear a haervy bass stereo i ask them what gear they are running. then go onto ask what their dB is, if they dont know, i tell them about comps and when/where the next is being held.
maybe also talk to Spectators at events and get their opinions on the event, if they would compete etc.

how about emailing mags that features modified cars who run dB Drag events at their shows and tell them how you feel about their non coverage of the dB Drag comp at their shows in their mags.

Said it before and I'll say it again.. press coverage. Sure you might come last, but you might get your ride in a mag. Whats worth more ? A plastic trophey or the bragging rights ?
I tell you right now, the photo of my car with a 3 deep crowd around it in ASM was worth more to me than the trophey that I won at that Doran event they covered.
Also mini street classes like Europe has.. no points, small trophey for first.. let the street beaters cut their teeth against other street beaters, rather than taking on meter tuned SPL monsters with power cable worth more than more street cars entire systems.

i'm with Blackice on this one - media coverage is the way to go.
oh and i also think they should let the streeters take on streeters - it's hard for a new person to even bother competing when they know they've got to compete against people pushing records... And SA is well known for pushing records LOL...

I would have to say that magazine coverage would be a great start. Even a column listing results from events that have occurred since the last issue would be a result. I know it would encourage me to buy the mag, as well encourage readers to want to get their name in the magazine.

its been said. but a couple of pages in a magazine would get some publicity out there. (autosalon/car stereo australia/etc...)
if db drag australia lifted it price by 5bucks. times that buy the comps n competitors in a month n we might be able to get a couple of pages. i think everyone here would love to have their car in a magazine and for an extra 5bucks for the chance. why not? (i dont know the actual price of putting a couple of pages in a magazine. just throwin ideas around)

I've said this many times before.
At events, take some high res photos, write a couple of hundred quality words and send it to the magazines with the results.
They'll run it, they love free content!

yep...thats spot on....and is the exact reason i PERSONALLY cant see any point in competing in SPL
its not really something where people feel like they have a chance...maybe its just me but i see no value going up against people that will pull more than me all day everyday
to be brutally honest it isnt really that excting...however when you watch the big boys trying to crack a bigger score for the crowd it is good...on the same token...the guys who burp for like 2 seconds and then we sit around for the next 28 seconds for nothing kind of kills it a bit
i think if the profile can be lifted it will do wonders for the popularity of this event
as a specialist kind of past time...where money and experience will take you a long way...it isnt easilly accesable to the average joe
i know this hasnt really addressed the question of how to grow the sport....but i think making the entry level of this sport more attainable to more people will boost numbers, and then people will progress and not become 'dissillusioned' after 1 comp can only help...thats my 2c

ive bought a few of my mates along to some spl comps and on the way home they said it was good but it wasnt that loud!!
i tried to expain to them that the idea is keeping the sound inside (aswell as loading)
is it possible to give the spectators an idea on how loud 150+dbs is?
heheh or is too much of a health concern:p

Yes i agree with you to a point i started out at my first show only pulling 137's now after competing and learning things and having a wonderful boyfriend I'm up to 147.5 it took over a year to get to this but all of us started low then got louder
"You have to learn to crawl before you can walk let alone run"If in every sport everyone was as even as everyone else then it wouldn't be a competion.
In the end it means you have to work at it.

heres and idea i have.
when we hqave comps like autosalon and summernats and wagga and big name comps wherew the crowds have to usual;ly stand back from cars behind barries and that. and as someone said people will go and think dam thats not to loud as 150db at 60hz doesnt really sound that loud. it basically sound like 140db at 40Hz. just opening a door and having a person hear and feel it from 2 meters away doesnt do much.
NOW THIS IS MY IDEA:
after the comps run we have our cars on display and allow people to hop in the car (AT THIER OWN RISK OF COURSE) and feel what 150+db feels like. some people might not wanna do this with their cars but that would be their choice. but if someone asked me can i hop in and feel what its like then for sure i would be much abliged to let them with my car. and i dont mind giving me stereo some extra work outside of dbdrag. it would surely interest the crowds i think.
but yeah i know yas might some comps might say safety is a factor but if its in a controlled enviroment this is a very simple thing. safety really all it takes is to tell the person it at their own risk and cover ya ears and get ready to feel the bass LOL.
but thats just one idea i think. i have many more but put that one out there for now.
and as for events outside cities we need more competitors first LOL

"Git 'em young!"
I don't think much about car audio in general, let alone competition form, is adequately reaching 'younger' public.
I'm sure that an information day at a senior secondary school wouldn't go astray, provided it was structured correctly.
i.e. safety being a priority and a large amount of focus on getting 'doof heads' off the streets and into the competition arena.
There are so many different subjects that this could benefit..... maths, electronics, music, MDT, etc.
I think it would be very important to have average cars too, not ones that are so showy that it makes it all look like a dream rather than actually attainable.
This would go for SQ as well, not just SPL, and make it fairly even between the two.
Depending of course on what you have available (demo cars, people to discuss it, etc.)

getting doofheads off the streets dont mean to pick ya on that quote but thats like saying get the "Noisy V8's" off the streets. boom as much as ya want i say.
but mainly the topic i beleive is how to get the people that attend events. giving them a bit more entertainment to make people wanna come and join the sport also. and how we can get people into the sport.
i know there is more then roughly 100 cars just in wollongong with stereos worthy of meter time and entering events. its just alot either think they will get flogged and dont enter or they dont know the details of when and where events are held. so there is no shortage of people to make the sport big its just not enough knowledge is out there reguarding events. and stuff i think
but yeah i stick by my idea of letting people at events after the event is run having time to jump in the cars and see what it feels like inside some of the cars

i agree with you on that sis look at me i started with 2 cheap sony xplodes.its all about getting them involved i was never big on a comp system but now after my first show back at final battle last year i wouldnt have it any other way so maybe some street driven classes or grudge matches would b an idea
