Hi Guys,

Was wondering, (budget isn't of concern here but Power, SQ and SPL figures are) which would you choose the Soundstream XXX-6500 or a Digital Designs Z2? im stuck any ideas? opinions? i have a DD 9512 at the moment.

Anyones feedback is very much appreciated, Daniel

if you got a dd nwo and you like the sub, get a dd amp? if your happy
if not get teh SS amp

they are both top amps
Shreknos
the z2 id designed to play at above 16 volts, whereas the xxx will run on 14...

i dont know many people who have heard the z2, or the xxx, so pick one that comes with a good warranty, good after sales service, makes the most power, and is aesthetically pleasing...

i personally like the look of both, and i think you may be waiting ages for a z2...

be different and get the z2

The Z2 is built for extreme situations, you're not going to get your money out of it unless you've got an 'extreme' supply to match.

I'd be buying 2 x Z1's personally.

How much is a XXX-6500D worth?
Sorin-Andrei
Current St A record was made with XXX and 9510's... and i believe he also pushed 150's with a single 9512...

Personally i think they're a beautiful amp, and pretty darn rare as well.

George did back to back testing and found only a few tenths of a dB between the XXX and the Z1 in his car, with his box, his impedance curve etc. Remember that you can buy two Z1s for the price of a XXX.

The Z2 runs fine off 12V, but will continue to make power all the way to 7900W on 16V batts, http://forum.soundpressure.com/showthread.php?t=209

The Z1 is designed for high efficiency, making it the choice for Street Classes, Street A,B and C records are all held by Z1s at present last time I looked.

Bottom line is, the Z2 is a monster. If you have the current, I don't know of anything more powerful, a strapped pair can deliver over 15000Wrms PER COIL!!!!

Caydin, Z2s have been ready for several weeks, but we had to wait for our Z1s to be ready as we are doing a freight consolidation out of Korea. ETA on both is approx 2.5 weeks.

We have already sold six Z2s!

If you are going to be using it for daily listening, be careful with the gains.

We have several hundred amps in production at present, I'm hoping to have the new "a" models 1st week in Sept.

Just be careful, i deadened my old car and lost db because it changed my peak frequency.

Hey phil is there any such amps as a Z1a? and if so whats the diff between that and a normal Z1?

Ive made my choice well brand choice anyways hehe DD here i come!

Will the Z2 run fine off 12V - 14V systems? or does it require the extra voltage to run?
DD Phil
The new batch of Z1s have been revised, not sure if DD have opted for the "a" suffix just yet.

The Z2 needs more than one battery to do it justice.

What changes have been made? Do the revised Z1's have more grunt?

DAIM - Z1 pushed over 4kw on 1.15 ohm, even though it's rated 3kw at 1ohm?!!!?!?!?!?!

*?!?!?!?!??!!*

and if u read wat the z2 does at 12volt ull realise the z1 has more power. so there is no point spending the extra $1800 on a z2 unless u r going to run 15 volts and up

As I said, the Z2 needs multiple batteries to reach it's true potential.

With a single battery (or Street Class competition) the Z1 is more efficient.

Kool thanks guys for the info about both amps thats interesting, Hey Phil do you know whats been revised exactly? and how has the slow boat from the US gone any faster with the amps hehe wink.gif

Not the boat's fault. It's the factory on this one!

Our Z2s have been gathering dust in Korea, waiting for the Z1s to be ready.

It's causing me no end of stress, I should be in SA today helping Theo get the Extreme car ready for AAS this weekend..................
