Hello all just after some honest feedback on why JL never get a mention? what experiences have people had with the equipment? I have use JL in my last 3 cars and i have never had any dramas except with the entry level sub died but the better stuff has served me well. I am after honest feedback on the slash series amps, vr 600 splits and w3 series subs.

i had JL 12w6's for years before moving to australia in 2002 and they were amazing. i only had them running off a phoenix gold zx475ti so they were way underpowered but still outperformed my kicker 12l5's i now have with 1000 rms running them

jl is unsung, they had variable caps ect in thier upper range crossovers before focal put it in thier crossblock, they made only one line of slash series amps, years and years ago, and thier power, features and SQ still rival if not beat alot of other brands in that price range and higher, they made the cleansweep, before all the other brands got on the oem bandwagon, they are a great brand that doesnt get recognition cos thier sold in JB...
JB, youve done it again

As a past retailer of JL I became familiar with all their subs, the Slash series amps and their components.
I love their amps and would happily swap my Alpine V12 (MRV-F407) or any of their newer amps out for a 300/4.
They have a slightly less "sterile" sound compared to Alpine. I'd almost say a more musical or organic sound. I also love the sound of the 12W6 and see it as the best sounding sub in their range.
Their amps are very well made and in my own opinion, you would have to go to something like PG Titanium or Tru Technology to better them.
To answer your original question though...what I see, rightly or wrongly, is that they don't get the mention some other good brands do, not because they are no good but because the shops that sell them don't tend to promote to their customers, participation in car audio events and car events in general.
The brands you see most often are those promoted by shops that get behind and support events. Shops like the Autobarns and Northfields, etc.
It's these shops that on the "passion for car audio" scale tend to fair better rather than just seeing the industry for what they can get out of it as a retailer. These are the shops that also understand that participation by them and their customers is also of benefit to the industry in general.
I have to ask though,
What's been tempting you?
are JL audio value for money? as i seen, some of their gears is quite expensive. what is the difference with their series? i was confuse by their product range.

Not a real sq person, but IMHO JL audio W3 are nice sounding subs as well. Arguably, there are others that sound as good that cost less though (RRP). JB do good prices on them which makes them competetive vfm IMHO. They are certainly well made and can take a beating.

J L Audio is the way to go.. Yeah Jb's do sell it and they do some mad prices on it.
Iv used most subs in there range and they have something for all budgets.
One of the most suprising was their 13w1v2 sub which is the new entry level sub in a 13.5 inch, i tried two of them in 2.5cu ft ea slot ported box in a falcon and they absolutely hammered like nothin iv seen in the price range!
We also did 3 12w6's in a sealed sq box off their 1000/1 amp and did a 142ish on term pro meter... Not bad for an sq sealed set up.
Im sure Impure you will find something to fit your Budget.

hello everyone this is my first post though ive been on here for ever
i own a 99 model forester gt with a fair few mods one being my JL AUDIO SET UP
i got all my gear from jb and jl
jl audio and jb have been associated for years dont know why alot of people think you need to go to a little independent to get a good product, and the reason you may not here of jl as much is cause its a small company, that sells on its product not marketing or extreme advertising. walk into any jb shop and ask the car ausio guys what they think of it! i have used jl for years and in all my years in the biz i havent found anything that is as good and can be used in so many different cars and sound great, from subs to amps to splits there all quality. YOU CAN NOT GO WRONG. one of the only companys that has offered replacement warranties on there product for ever if thats not confidence i dont know what is. i remeber one sub blowing and it was replaced for a customer but jl in the states paid for it to get sent back cause they wanted to test it and see what happened as they hadent had one blow up before! now thats BIG.
research and development second to none.
jl audio best product out there i think!
all supplied by JL AUDIO & JB HI FI!

They don't, but service, install and advice at some may be a different matter?
jlaudio slash series amps and their w3, w6 and w7 subs are of extremely high standards
excellent products that are very highly recommended. Its the only high end gear that the yellow shop offers.

The power supply regulation is quite common in 'SQ' amps, but as for output power - yes the JL wil automatically reduce it's rail voltages to give the same power at 4 ohms as 1.5 ohms - the benefit here I see is less likely to overload the output transistors. Funny though, they usually put out quite a bit more than the spec.
One review I saw rated the 500/1 at 733W RMS at 20hm, rather than the advertised 500 watts. Not too bad huh?

Went and had a look at some yesterday in JB. Just wondering how the JL 4/300 would compare with the PDX 4.150. Both RRP for $899. Looking for something to power a set of focal K2P.
Pulse-R
Aug 11 2006, 05:00 PM
I haven't heard the PDX, but I know the 300/4 will give you plenty of good clean power for the splits.
On paper, the JL looks better, but specs don't tell you how good it sounds.

Have heard several different sub and amp models.
They didnt sound bad but they didnt exactly stand out.
So many people like them but i have yet to see anyone use them in an SQ car that has won. Either there is no-one out there that uses them or all the owners are shy of competing...
Is there anyone in either NSW, VIC or SA that use these subs successfully in competition?? Im not asking to have a dig. I'm genuinely interested...

i keep reading on all the forums how the jlaudio w7 series sub is good but its not as good as XXXX or XXXX.

The same reason alot of popular brands never get a mention...if you are a large manufacturer and you make great products you seem to be forgotten because your now too mainstream ...many people want the next big thing, flavour of the month or most exclusive brand as they think it's better or maybe it's just better marketed.
JL make some great products, I like their subwoofers and amplifiers but their speakers just don't sound good to me...as always your results may vary

well said mate! well said.
im actually pretty sure they have won a fair few sound quality comps in the US.
also they dont change there product every year this range mostly has been around for years and it goes to show how far ahead of the curve they really are. in my opinon there isnt a product they make that is bad. its obvious some people have brand preference and thats fine as we all do that, but judged on merits and specs there a top shelf high end product.

I had one of there 12W6V2's, phenominal subwoofer.. amazingly powerful and high output,
very fast moving, but I could never get rid of the colouration in my ute, the sub was probably a bit too big for the cabin.
I'm considering trying a 10" one at the moment.
