hey all,
recently sold some splits to a member in S.A. anyways, they were sent via standard parcel mail and it has now been three weeks and they have not arrived to the buyer. the parcel didnt have a tracking number (non-registered mail, something i only recently discovered) so is there anyway to track it down???
suggestions dearly needed.
cheers,
adam

im fairly sure only reggistered mail and express post can be tracked. ring australia post to check if they can do anything i guess.

You cant track it, but you can continually bug Australia Post about it. I had my Birth Certificate in an unregistered mail once, and took 3 months to get to its destination. Only turned up after we threatened legal action. Stupid slow a$$ snail-mail....

if it hasn't turned up within a month you aren't going to have a whole lot of luck unfortunately. the best thing to do is to ring the australia post head office and ask them for help, also try ringing the destination post office and bugging them.

go to your nearest post office, and tell them what happened...they will give you a form to fill out, you give it back to them, and they sort it out...
im going thru the process at the moment. i sent a DD amp up to Phil for repair, and it never got there, so i filled out a claim, and its being sorted.....mind you, its been about 4 weeks since then.......

i would encourage people to use Registered Post at least. it only adds $2.50, and can be tracked. i didn't receive a component recently, but after a bit of hassle, insurance came through.

I work for Aus Post too in a Mail Center. Usually parcels go missing if an address is incorect, wrong postcode, etc The parcel could find its way all over the place. One other scenario is that it could have made it to Austria if the parcel had australia on it. Through quite unlikely for parcels. The parcel will be around somewhere. I believe that this is a rare occurance for something of this size as the parcel delivery service through Aus post is top notch.
Hey Red23. Where abouts do you work. I am at the Ballarat Mail Center.

This still happens alot, where some of these people just dont follow the guidelines etc. But at the end of the day, we will NOT be helping anyone recover money/goods. The rules have been put there for this exact reason.

Umm they are payment methods. He hasn't said in any of his posts how he accepted payment.
What are you ment to do? Use Paypal and not send it via post!!?
Edit - Just realised you said he MIGHT have not followed the rules. My bad

AFAIK, COD requires you to submit the item in-person or through a courier. you get a reciept, a tracking number, and insurance.
Could be totally wrong though.

Paypal doesn't. That's all I'm getting at.

paypal does. Not sure if its an *option* but it certainely does. Regardless, its a recordable transaction, thats a little more secure than "joe blogs posting a parcel".

I must admit, anything of value I wouldn't even think twice about using registered post. And insurance.
<$10 to cover your ass.

Paypal also offers buyer and seller protection. Protection against credit card fraud for the seller, and protection against lost / broken or misplaced products for the buyer.
I have been involved in many disputes via Paypal as the seller, but when we fax proof of postage (via an Aussie Post receipt showing the post-code and date sent) it proves we have fulfilled our end of the deal.

I HATE Australia Post.
Yesterday, I walked into my house to discover the Real Estate Agent had done an inspection. I didnt even know they were coming. The house was a bomb (hard fortnight at work). I received the letter today, stating they would be around....yesterday.... and it was post-marked 2 weeks ago. Son-of-a-bitch

Doesn't the 2 weeks warning start when you receieve the letter? It was always like that when we rented.

We cop crap from ppl all the time that there item hasnt arrived etc and most of our stueff we do express.
The funniest is when two invites were sent from one place and both going to the same suburb but different addresses. They arrived a week apart from each other, and thats not the first time ive seen it happen.
Australia Post do suck!!!

the same situation here, i post out an item to a buyer in sydney (registered post only). Buyer hasn't recieve any item, he complain to post office with the REG number, they said they CAN NOT LOCATE THE ITEM? all we can do is put a claim thru and we might get $50 refund against the LOST ITEM.
Don't you just hate it???

aussie post give registered, express, cod etc all id numbers. what you are spose to be able to do is go on the site, type in the number, and see where it is, or was last scanned.....ive tryed with about 4 things, and it never comes up. it always says "this item has not been scanned" etc etc....
they need to pick their game up

No. Legally (according to Tenants Advice Society) the time starts from when they send it. And whats worse is, a 'letter' is considered to have been 'sent and recieved' once it is deposited in the mail box. Unlike an email where a message is only considered to have been recieved once it has actually been recieved by your ISP (recorded in MIME header).
Sucks dont it?
And Mrs Tek, my Real Estate Agent is located 7 minutes away from my house. The mail was posted, then deviated via Perth, a 2.5 hour drive away. So the letter took 2 weeks to do a 5 hour journey, in what would have taken me 7 minutes or an email 1 second. I whoeheartedly agree, Australia Post sucks.
