Have a new in box S/S RUB600-4 predates my involvement in serious car audio, has anyone had experience using this amplifier or have an opinion from hearing in a vehicle? Especially interested in hearing from SQ fanatics as, despite the awards it received, real world experience while more qualitative is easier to relate to.

Thanking you in advance.

sound stream would not be my choice. as my mate told me in USA, sound stream is making in china and taiwan now. no longer made in USA. how much is your budget? any requirement for the AMP? i have heard soundstream set up in car show and it is not my cup of tea. just loud and fency.

you might want to read his post before replying,
the new amps, the new style tarantulas, References, and all the cheaper models are now made in China,
however up until last year, all the top end models, Tarantula, Van Gogh, Human Reign, and anything before them are all made in USA.
the Rubicon would be a fantastic amp, very high end in terms of SQ.

I've had the chance to have a play with the new China based Tarantula amps, and was quite surprised at how good they sound, although it would be safe to say some of the niceness is lost, they still are a much better option than Alpine/Pioneer ect.. which are all made in China also.

It seems quite funny when someone says "oh soundstream now made in China = crap" yet in the same sentance put "alpine amps are great" but they are made in China also.. LOL .

However, Soundstreams current model base model amps are a bit of a letdown, like the little wonders ect.
but this being said are no worse than a Alpine V Power for instance.
in regards to your little Rubicon, hang onto its not something you want to sell.

Thank you Juls - I agree in terms of the China build stigma, and appreciate your opinion on this amp.

I will hold onto it until I get the equipment to use it to its best application.

Cheers.

How much does the rose coloured glasses come into this though? I haven't heard one, but I am using a Van Gogh and am very happy with it.

The rubicons were a very nice amp. If you have the space, I really like the SS amps because they are so well built, and so well laid out. VERY good SQ amps IMO. Unfortunately though, very large.

the tick - the glasses are clear here. my rubi is awesome (my SS ref is better!)

Matt - big amps?
my Rubi is tiny!
~thematt~
Tiny? I must be thinking about another SS amp then, because the only small one Ive seen is the little wonder (even then the higher output version is quite large!!). All the other SS amps I know have been massive pillocks of steel and aluminium!! The rubicon I saw was one of the first series, and it was about ~VRx size. Big amps IMO (I only have a small car tongue.gif )

Who cares if they are made in China, one well known high end amps are not made in where they said they were and i still use them. SS Rubi are nice, i have the 1002 and 404, 8 years and still solid.
